BHG - In village 3, Khu Tru San, Tung San commune (Hoang Su Phi), people here often mention the name Nguyen Quyet Son with respect and admiration. At the age of 70, when many people have chosen to rest peacefully with their children and grandchildren, Mr. Son is still working hard, developing the family economy , becoming a typical example in the movement "Elderly people do good business".
Since 2016, Mr. Son has boldly invested in a pig farming model with the goal of developing the family economy. In the beginning, difficulties piled up due to limited capital, lack of experience, and having to face diseases in livestock... But with perseverance, constant learning and keen observation, he has gradually perfected the farming process, ensuring environmental hygiene and effectively preventing and controlling diseases. Not only raising commercial pigs, he also raises breeding pigs to proactively source breeds, reduce costs and improve production efficiency. Thanks to accumulated experience and diligence, his farming scale has increasingly expanded, currently maintaining from 100 to 180 pigs per litter.

Not only raising livestock, Mr. Son also opened a grocery store and a milling service to serve the essential needs of people in the village and neighboring areas. With the diversity in production and business activities, the model brings high efficiency, sustainability and adapts well to market fluctuations. The total annual profit from his production and business activities reaches over 500 million VND, not only helping his family stabilize economic development, but also being a great source of encouragement and support for the local community in rising out of poverty and becoming rich legitimately.
Mr. Son said: “My wife and I participate in production development. Although the work is quite hard, it is fun and makes us feel healthy. I simply think that the happiest thing in life is to be old but still be able to work, contribute, and do useful things for the family, children and society.”
What makes people in the area appreciate him even more is not only the economic aspect, but also his sense of responsibility to the community. Currently, he is creating stable jobs for 2 local workers, with a monthly income of about 7 million VND/person, a good income for rural mountainous areas. Many people, especially young people in the village, come to him to learn about the economic model. He does not hesitate to share his knowledge, is willing to give enthusiastic guidance, because for him, helping others do the same as him is complete success.

Comrade Hoang Binh Roi, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tung San Commune, said: "Not only is he good at business, Mr. Son is also an active member of the local Elderly Association. Despite his advanced age, he still enthusiastically participates in the Association's activities, regularly shares and encourages other elderly members to boldly do business, not to depend on their children or grandchildren or expect support from the State. In daily life, he is always exemplary, takes the lead, actively encourages and advises his family members to comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and to work hard in production and economic development."
With his tireless efforts, Mr. Nguyen Quyet Son was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam Association of the Elderly for his excellent production and business achievements in 2016, 2018 and 2023. At the same time, he also received many Certificates of Merit from local authorities and is a familiar face in conferences honoring typical advanced models.
The image of a man with silver hair, walking slowly in the middle of a large farm, taking care of pigs, chatting with workers, is a living proof of a generation of elderly people who are persistent, creative and always keep the fire of dedication. Mr. Nguyen Quyet Son is an example of "Old age, bright example" for the younger generation and the community to follow in the process of economic development and building the New Rural Area.
