The person who raised the level of Kinh Mon 'golden grain'

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quy directly and carefully packages each bag of yellow sticky rice to sell to the market.

In 1982, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quy, born in 1962, from Lien Mac (Thanh Ha) fell in love and built a family with Mr. Le Van Xem in Duy Tan ward (Kinh Mon).

Her husband's hometown is the largest concentrated sticky rice production area in the town with more than 200 hectares, so Mrs. Quy understands the hardships of people who work "in the sun and rain" to produce rice.

She said that when she was young, every season she helped her mother plant, harvest, and dry rice, feeling the fragrance of the drying straw and the warm smell of the golden rice grains. That scent is deeply imprinted in her memory. "Especially when enjoying dishes made from Kinh Mon yellow sticky rice such as sticky rice, banh chung, banh long, cai ruou... the flavor of the rice grains always lingers and urges me to build the Duy Tan yellow sticky rice brand," said Mrs. Quy.

Being a quick-witted person, in 2000, Mrs. Quy discussed with her husband to invest in opening a store selling fertilizers and pesticides. The business went smoothly, along with 24 years of experience in the profession, understanding the technical and market advances, Mrs. Quy was determined to create a brand for the "golden grain" of Duy Tan people.

In 2020, Ms. Quy and members of the Duyen Linh Farmers' Association established the Duy Tan Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative with 35 members. She was trusted to hold the position of Director of the Cooperative. Initially, the Cooperative purchased all products for 5 hectares of golden sticky rice of its members. The entire production process, from seed selection, planting, fertilizer use, and pesticides, was strictly controlled in an organic direction. Harvesting, preservation, and packaging were carried out in accordance with the process to ensure quality and safety.

Mr. Le Van Hoa, a member of Duy Tan Cooperative, shared: “When joining the Cooperative, we are always proactive and confident before each crop season. Being able to purchase products at a higher price than the market, everyone is excited.”

In 2021, Ms. Quy actively participated in the Duy Tan Ward Safe Golden Flower Sticky Rice Production and Consumption Association, creating more opportunities to increase product value. Together with the members of the Cooperative, she actively promoted and introduced the product to consumers through trade promotion activities inside and outside the province, on social networking sites... When traveling far away, she always brought Golden Flower Sticky Rice products as gifts, and everyone praised them.

This year, the Cooperative has purchased 14 hectares of yellow sticky rice from 40 members, yielding 60 tons of rice. The Cooperative has also expanded its factory to more than 300 square ^meters with a system of equipment, large-capacity drying ovens, integrated milling machines, and modern packaging, ensuring product quality to consumers. The Cooperative creates jobs for 5-7 workers; connects and consumes dozens of tons of rice for the town's residents.

To maintain the brand of the Golden Flower Sticky Rice in the market, each member of Duy Tan Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative always focuses on the production, purchasing, preservation, packaging and consumption stages, putting their "heart" into each "golden grain". At the same time, they actively contribute to building the Golden Flower Sticky Rice into a typical OCOP product of the locality.

Comrade Nguyen Hai Duong , Vice Chairman of Duy Tan Ward People's Committee, said that Ms. Nguyen Thi Quy is a person who is passionate about improving the quality and building the brand of Duy Tan yellow sticky rice in particular and Kinh Mon in general. In recent years, Duy Tan Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative has operated effectively, contributing to increasing the value of the local yellow sticky rice.
