Hong Ngoc's exhibition works
The first painting exhibition: " Beautiful sorrows" by young artist Hong Ngoc (opening on July 7 at J Art Space - Ho Chi Minh City) attracted public attention.
Hong Ngoc was born in 1993 in Ho Chi Minh City. She has been passionate about drawing since the year 2000, when she was in primary school. After school, she would draw, drawing images of children through many different topics. Just like that, with scraps of paper, she could draw countless images.
It was not until 2008 that her father, painter Nguyen Hung Trinh, taught her to draw with a trowel and fingers, but Hong Ngoc preferred to draw with her fingers.
Finger painting is very difficult for beginners, but Hong Ngoc - thanks to being exposed to her father's painting style since childhood - picked it up very quickly. Hong Ngoc learned to draw portraits and still lifes, practicing every day she had free time.
So how is finger painting different from brush painting? Perhaps finger painting is more difficult than brush painting, it depends more on inspiration. The artist squeezes the color directly onto the canvas and then uses his finger to paint. Therefore, the artist needs to be sensitive to the color, because if it is damaged, it will be very difficult to fix.
She comes from an artistic family, her father is a painter, her uncle is literary critic Nguyen Hung Quoc, her paternal uncle is art critic Nguyen Hung... She is also naturally intelligent and talented since childhood, if Hong Ngoc chose to go to university to pursue painting or literature - art in general, there would be no difficulty or obstacle. But Hong Ngoc chose to be a self-taught painter, or more accurately, a self-trained painter.
Before choosing the finger painting method as seen in this exhibition, Hong Ngoc also tried to take drawing classes at several places, including the drawing class of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association, learned many lessons but in the end still chose the method that she felt most comfortable with.
Hong Ngoc believes that her fingers are the best way to convey her emotions into her work in the most authentic way, touching the paint and feeling each fiber of the fabric as if they were all merging into one.
The image of a pure young woman with a slim body and eyes like the night sky with the moon and stars is a characteristic feature in Hong Ngoc's paintings.

Another characteristic is that the symbolism and convention have helped to enhance the female character to the maximum, bringing out the spirit of self-portrait clearly. When painting, Hong Ngoc almost separates herself from the present moment to find peace of mind in the world of painting - a place that Hong Ngoc believes is the most gentle, so that she can freely express all her feelings and heal her wounds.
Special pictures
Hong Ngoc rarely recreates dramatic actions, but instead seeks contemplation and reflection within herself. There is sublimation and holiness. There is dreaminess and freedom.
And above all, there are beautiful sorrows. From here, Hong Ngoc found a small path to enter painting, which is also a small path to enter life. For more than 5 years, Hong Ngoc has spent almost all of her time contemplating and painting.
