The Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project (Dong Nai Province) was approved by the Prime Minister in the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
The project is invested by EVN and directly managed by Power Project Management Board 3 (EVNPMB3), with a total investment of VND 3,965 billion and an installed capacity of 200 MW (including 2 units x 100 MW).
The project is expected to generate electricity from unit 1 in the third quarter of 2027, unit 2 in the fourth quarter of 2027 and complete the entire project in the fourth quarter of 2027.
According to Mr. Pham Hong Phuong, Deputy General Director of EVN, this is one of the key projects that EVN will deploy in 2025. The Group has assigned EVNPMB3 and the XL04-TAMR Package Joint Venture to organize project management and construction to ensure compliance with quality, safety and environmental requirements, focus resources and equipment to accelerate progress, and strive to complete the project according to the set plan.
Tri An Hydropower Plant was built in 1984 and completed in 1991, with 4 units, a total designed capacity of 400 MW, and an average annual electricity output of more than 1.7 billion kWh.
After being put into operation, the plant has contributed to providing energy for the socio -economic development of 16 southern provinces and cities, ensuring industrial and domestic water sources for millions of people, and irrigation water for more than 20,000 hectares of rice fields and land in the downstream area. During the entire operation, the project has always ensured efficiency and safety.
To meet the increasing demand for consumer loads and take advantage of excess water discharged during the annual flood season, EVN Group has proposed investing in the Tri An hydropower plant expansion project.
After being put into operation, the plant will contribute to increasing the capacity to mobilize load for the Southern region, especially during peak hours; contribute to improving the working mode of the power system, thereby contributing to reducing production costs of the national power system; maximize the capacity of the flow and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions; reduce the working intensity of the existing plant's generators, prolonging the life of the equipment.
