Researcher Huynh Ngoc Trang tells the story of Mr. Dia

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên03/03/2025

Researchers believe that the Earth God, Ong Dia in our country is an image that has developed and been enriched, changed throughout the history - politics as well as the beliefs of the Vietnamese people in cultural exchange with China. The Tang Dynasty of China (ie the time of Northern domination in our country) officially marked the change in beliefs from worshiping the stone god to worshiping the earth god with the appearance of the tutelary god. The image of this god (thanh hoang) and the Earth God in our country are basically the same because basically, the meaning of beliefs and the nature of the two are the same: protecting the religious life of the people. Huynh Ngoc Trang said: "The Earth God in our country has many names, many surnames. The tutelary god that we are worshiping is actually also Ong Dia".

Although it was a casual talk revolving around the worship of the land god, the sharing of researcher Huynh Ngoc Trang can be considered as interdisciplinary sharing from beliefs - spirituality to archeology, history and even discussing architecture within a certain scope. All are aimed at explaining the vivid and interesting image of the land god in the worship beliefs of the Vietnamese people from the past to the present. The event also displayed a number of his research books on the South and typical worship beliefs such as Cultural Stories , the book series "Thousand Years of Mouth Steles " (co-written), "The Land God - Ong Dia & Than Tai", Special study on the worship of family gods (co-written)...
