Broadway musical "Shrek The Musical" will be performed at the Opera House

In early November 2023, the musical Shrek The Musical from the renowned Broadway stage (USA) will be performed at the Hanoi Opera House under a licensed production. The project is expected to bring a breath of fresh air to Vietnamese theatrical arts and provide new inspiration for young people.

The musical Shrek The Musical, with music rights purchased by The YOUniverse, is a collaboration with a creative team including Meritorious Artist Dang Chau Anh, director Ylaria Rogers, and music director Nicholas Gentile. This is The YOUniverse's biggest artistic project of 2023, with significant investment in every aspect, from expertise and costumes to stage design, resulting in a professional and spectacular production.

Shrek The Musical is the second fairy tale musical to be performed in Vietnam. In 2022, The YOUniverse also purchased the rights and staged Alice in Wonderland , but for schoolchildren. For Shrek The Musical , the producers paid five times the copyright fee of Alice in Wonderland and purchased the rights directly from Broadway.

Shrek The Musical is not just a musical, but a project with significant value and meaning for the community. Through this project, The YOUniverse will open opportunities for all young people who love art without having to meet outdated appearance standards or conventional casting methods.

The Shrek The Musical project is also a professional platform for young, non-professional performers, featuring a team of renowned international experts from Australia.

Humorous, meaningful, with catchy melodies, impressive stage costumes, and profound lessons on the theme of "equality." Sharing about the project, Music Director Nicholas Gentile said that the reason for choosing the musical Shrek the Musical was because the performance carries many humanistic messages, such as equality in appearance, respect for individual differences, gender equality, and class equality. In addition, Shrek the Musical is a friendly musical, easily accessible to young audiences, helping to convey messages more easily to the audience through music.

The Shrek the Musical project is expected to have up to 300 actors and staff, and aims to reach approximately 3,000 viewers both in person and on social media platforms. The primary goal is to target young people and help them become more interested in and understand musicals. Currently, the project is beginning to recruit actors of various ages for the musical.

In particular, alongside the profound humanitarian meanings in this musical project is a message about environmental protection, aiming for a greener, cleaner, and more beautiful Earth. Specifically, the costumes of the actors in the musical are made entirely from recycled materials such as nylon and aluminum cans. The project also spreads connection and sharing love, as the costumes and accessories on the musical stage are made from recycled materials and created by young people with disabilities and those less fortunate.

Reportedly, as part of the Shrek The Musical project, The YOUniverse is also bringing a series of activities aimed at discovering young Vietnamese talents in the arts and creative industries, starting in July.
