In the late afternoon of March 13, more than fifty years ago, at the suggestion of the Political Commissar of the 141st Regiment, Mac Ninh, when the attack order was just given, Hoang Van hugged the Accordion, together with Tran Ngoc Xuong playing the violin, Do Nhuan and Van Tien playing the flute, and began to passionately play one piece of music after another. In that heroic and romantic moment, the four soldiers suddenly disappeared with the intense, boiling melody of Tien Quan Ca, Chien Si Viet Nam, Quoc Te Ca... Many heroic soldiers, coldly brandishing their swords on the battlefield, the music full of optimism kept pace with the soldiers' fiery charging spirit. The 312th Division very quickly crushed the Him Lam (Beatrice) resistance center, creating a resounding victory right from the first battle.
Half a century has passed, but the strong impression of that glorious time still lingers in the mind of musician Hoang Van. Originally a resident of the 36 streets, living at 12 Hang Thung, who knows how long ago, to put it in a funny way now, he actually had no hometown, no fellow countrymen.
At the age of 16, while still in school, his family planned to send him to study abroad in Europe, but with the enthusiasm and gallant demeanor of a Hanoi youth eager with the spirit of autumn 1945, Le Hoang Van became a liaison officer in the Capital Regiment.
During the heroic days at the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, as a soldier of the 312th Division, Hoang Van became known to many people because of the timely and meaningful birth of the song Ho keo Phao right on the occasion of Tet Giap Ngo 1954. Hoang Van and singers Kim Ngoc and Thanh Phuc continuously sang Ho keo Phao right on the civilian routes, traffic trenches of the battlefield...
That first song, like his "manifesto", like his artistic "platform", his whole life was dedicated to serving the people. Therefore, it seems that in every fierce period of the two resistance wars against foreign invaders of the nation, Hoang Van had songs that were nailed into the public's memory not only at that time but even today.
Quang Binh , my homeland, Hello to the liberation army, hello to the great spring victory, written in the year of Mau Than 1968... are among the songs that every time the gentle, exciting lyrics are sung, they make people's hearts flutter, recalling... Now, along with the Nhat Le river and sea, along with the Phong Nha - Ke Bang landscape and the legend of the heroic mother Suot, the song Quang Binh, my homeland has also become an irreplaceable specialty of the land located next to the Truong Son mountain range. Then Hanoi - Hue - Saigon, Beat the drums for the mountains and forests, Construction song, I am a miner, Tay Nguyen love song... also create a majestic, luxurious, sentimental resonance and long-lasting emotional effect on the listener.
Because of his unique mark in revolutionary music, Hoang Van was the youngest musician to receive the Ho Chi Minh Prize (2nd round) for literature and art in 2000.
Always relaxed, polite, always wanting to be in harmony with life and the times, musician Hoang Van is always young, fresh, and his creative ability is still abundant and youthful. His passion for music has been completely passed on to his son, conductor Le Phi Phi, who is currently working at the Macedonian Symphony Orchestra (a former republic of Yugoslavia).
Another great joy has just come to musician Hoang Van, that is recently, the Dien Bien Phu symphony he wrote more than twenty years ago, thought to be covered by the dust of time, was staged and performed at the Hanoi Opera House in a solemn, cozy atmosphere... The creative flow that is always abundant in musician Hoang Van, until today, still makes many people surprised and moved.
