The recent shocking incident - the Nguyen Dynasty throne was recently smashed by a man visiting Thai Hoa Palace, Hue Imperial City, and some parts of this treasure were broken - has raised questions about the responsibility and protection of antiquities at the relic.
In terms of historical value, this is an intact and sophisticated royal throne artifact, a symbol of the supreme power of the Nguyen Dynasty throughout its 143 years of existence, recognized as a National Treasure in 2015.
The artifact is solemnly placed in the middle of the main Thai Hoa Palace, the ancient ceremonial space of the Royal Family. This is where the king often held court with his mandarins, the center of royal ceremonies.
The throne is 101cm high, 72cm wide, and 87cm long. The base is 118cm long, 90cm wide, and 20cm high. Above the throne is a splendid gilded canopy.
The artifact is elaborately crafted from precious wood, gilded with gold, and intricately carved with hidden dragon and cloud motifs, images symbolizing the emperor in Eastern thought.
According to a report from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, at noon on May 24, Ho Van Phuong Tam, born in 1983, residing in Hue city, bought an entrance ticket to the Hue Imperial City.
Despite being prevented by the authorities, the subject still sneaked into the Nguyen Dynasty throne display area, shouted and then broke the front left armrest.
Currently, the subject who violated the relic has been detained by the authorities.
Regarding this matter, the Department of Cultural Heritage requests the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to urgently organize inspections and evaluate the current status, ensure security and safety, promptly protect National Treasures and Hue Monuments and report to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism .
The Department also requested the Center to assess the technical status of the National Treasures and promptly propose solutions for handling and preservation in accordance with the provisions of the law on cultural heritage./.
