With 31 goals in 34 appearances in the Spanish Championship (La Liga) last season, French star Kylian Mbappe surpassed Polish striker Lewandowski (Barcelona) to win the "European Golden Shoe" title in 2025.
This is the first time in his career that Mbappe has won this title. In a conversation with Marca (Spain) afterwards, Mbappe said that the individual title is a source of pride and he feels happy to be compared to his senior Cristiano Ronaldo.

* Did you dream about this Golden Boot since you were a child? Did you think this was just the first time and there would be many more to come?
- Of course. Since I was a child, I always dreamed of scoring goals. Every child who starts playing football dreams of scoring goals. This is a very important award and it makes me very happy. However, the team's achievements are the most important.
I hope to win another Golden Boot in the future. But above all I hope we win the league. If we win the league and I win another Golden Boot, I will be even happier.
* There are many goals that you have scored, but is there any special goal that you want to save on your phone?
- I usually choose the last goal, but this time I will choose the first goal. Because it was also my first goal at the Bernabeu.
It was a special feeling to play against Real Betis and score my first goal at this stadium. It was a moment that marked the beginning of my story at the Bernabeu and left me with a very good memory.
* You used to wear the number 9 shirt but now you wear the number 10 shirt for Real Madrid and the French national team. This year you have had an incredible scoring streak. Do you feel more suited to the number 10 or the number 9 shirt?
- I've said before that I don't care about a specific position. I'm a striker who can play in many positions and score from anywhere.
Ultimately, I just aim for the goal. My goal is to do my job well, no matter what position the coach assigns me.
* What has changed, both football-wise and personally, from 2018 World Cup winner Mbappe to the current Golden Boot winner?
- I hope I have changed, because that is the normal evolution of a player. You always have to improve so it would be a big problem if I was still the same as 7 years ago.
I think with all that I have achieved and the mistakes I have made, I have learned to change into the player and person I am today. Change is positive, as long as it is for the better and I am not the same anymore.
* Champions League, World Cup, Golden Ball... what is your goal in 2026?
- As a player, I want to fight for everything. So I can't just choose one goal. Of course it will be difficult, but I want to win everything and give my all in every competition.
* Do you think about surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo's record at Real Madrid?
- I don't know how to answer this question. Everyone knows Ronaldo is the number 1 standard in Madrid. I've been here for a year and a half, he's been here for 9 years. I can't compare myself to what he's done.
My path is different. I want to make my own path. It's an honor to be mentioned with Ronaldo, but like I said, I'm just focused on making my own path, helping the team and winning all the titles I can.
