
Long Hieu Cooperative, Hua Muong village, Sop Cop commune was established in November 2016, specializing in production, business, and services in the fields of agriculture , forestry, and medicinal herbs. After nearly 9 years of operation, the Cooperative now has 20 members, providing regular jobs for 30 local workers. Every year, the Cooperative purchases 75 - 80 tons of various medicinal herbs; 2,800 - 3,000 tons of corn, cassava, and various fresh fruits for the people.
Mr. Lai Dinh Hien, Director of Long Hieu Cooperative, said: The Cooperative has invested in planting nearly 30 hectares of medicinal plants; more than 10 hectares of fruit trees in Phong, Long Tong villages, Sop Cop commune and Mat village, Muong Leo commune. Of which, 20 hectares of medicinal plants and fruit trees have been harvested, bringing stable income. Along with that, the Cooperative also researched and produced the product "Sop Cop wild honey polygonum multiflorum pills", which in 2022 was recognized as meeting the provincial 3-star OCOP standard.
Aiming at sustainable agricultural development, Toan Duyen Agricultural Cooperative, Phong village, Sop Cop commune, orients its members to strictly follow safe production processes, from seed selection, land management to fertilizer use, irrigation water, and care for 27 hectares of mango, orange, and tangerine trees; maintaining the raising of 80 buffaloes, cows, 100 pigs, more than 5,000 chickens and ducks; planting 50 hectares of forest and trading agricultural materials. Revenue increased from more than 1 billion VND in 2019 to over 6 billion VND in 2024. Every year, the Cooperative contributes from 20 to 30 million VND to community activities and contributes to the construction of new rural areas in the locality.

As a member of Toan Duyen Agricultural Cooperative from the early days, Mr. Lo Van Nam, Phong village, Sop Cop commune, shared: My family grows 1 hectare of oranges. Joining the Cooperative, I was trained and instructed on production techniques, safe care processes; the use of drugs and fertilizers is strictly controlled, regulations on labor safety and application of production processes according to VietGAP standards to improve product quality and increase competitiveness. Last year's orange crop, my family harvested 9 tons of fruit, after deducting expenses, earned a profit of more than 110 million VND.
Currently, Sop Cop commune has 19 cooperatives, of which 17 operate in the agricultural and forestry sectors, with 128 members participating. After completing and innovating the operation methods according to the 2012 Law on Cooperatives, many cooperatives quickly reorganized production, equipped with modern machinery to serve agricultural production and business; actively applied technical advances in production, built OCOP product brands and consumed local agricultural products. Up to now, the commune has 3 OCOP products with 3-4 stars, such as: Muong Va sticky rice; Sop Cop wild honey and polygonum multiflorum pills have reached many markets inside and outside the province. Cooperatives create regular jobs for over 600 local workers, with an income of 5-8 million VND/person/month.

Mr. Duong Dinh Nghi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Sop Cop Commune, said: The commune has established an Advisory Group to help cooperatives register, develop production and business development plans; guide the application of technical advances in production, such as: grafting, drip irrigation systems; building greenhouses; mechanization in land preparation; packaging, preliminary processing of products... From July to now, the commune has guided Nam Ban Agricultural Cooperative and Nam Phuong Agricultural Cooperative to register and participate in the Fair for Trade Promotion of Agricultural Products and OCOP Products in the Northwest - Son La region in 2025, within the series of activities to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the founding of Son La province (October 10, 1895 - October 10, 2025) organized by the Provincial People's Committee. Thereby, the potential and strengths of agricultural products, OCOP products and typical rural industrial products in the locality have been introduced.
Focusing on building and replicating typical new cooperative models with effective operations, Sop Cop commune focuses on building a healthy operating and production environment, ensuring the legitimate interests of cooperatives; prioritizing the building of models associated with value chains, strengthening cooperation with other economic sectors. Encouraging the development of new collective economic organizations with diverse scales and fields of operation, attracting people to participate.
