The move comes as Japan seeks to strengthen its deterrence against regional security threats by promoting cooperation with Ottawa and other countries that share common values with Tokyo.
Previously, the Canadian Navy announced that it would deploy Operation Horizon, which will deploy multiple ships in the Indo- Pacific region between August and December 2023.
The destroyers Ottawa and Vancouver are scheduled to visit the MSDF's Yokosuka base in Kanagawa Prefecture later this August, marking the first port call as part of the operation.
Responding at a press conference on August 8 in Tokyo, Mr. Robert Watt, Canadian defense attaché to Japan, said that the purpose of this activity is to maintain the international order based on rules.
In addition to the maritime sector, the two countries plan to increase cooperation in new areas such as cyberspace in the coming time.
