Berlin Film Festival 2025.
The Berlin Film Festival is one of the oldest film events in Europe. Over the years, the organizers have continuously innovated and created new activities, contributing to the promotion of the local and regional film industry. Specifically, in 2026, the Berlin Film Festival (taking place from February 12 to 22, 2026) plans to introduce new activities to create diversity. Accordingly, the European Film Market (EFM) will collaborate with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (usually held in June each year) to organize EFM Animation Days, a three-day program focusing on the global animation industry.
EFM is a program within the framework of the Berlin Film Festival, playing an important role in connecting, promoting, and creating a commercial market for film projects in Europe. EFM will take place from February 12 to 18, 2026, with EFM Animation Days taking place from February 12 to 14.
EFM Animation Days will bring together animation creators, studios, producers, buyers, sponsors, and intellectual property partners for presentations, workshops, research, curated showcases, and networking events. Additionally, Annecy will collaborate with the organizers of the International Film Market (Marché International du Film d' Animation - MIFA) to select a number of ongoing animation projects to be showcased at a new event called Annecy Animation Showcase EFM. These projects are expected to be released in the second half of 2026.
Tanja Meissner, Director of Berlinale Pro – the group overseeing all events of the Berlin Film Festival and its derivatives – stated: “EFM Animation Days is an important new initiative, aimed at supporting a very creative and dynamic field: animation. This is a field where Europe offers suitable and diverse resources, ready to export.” EFM is also committed to supporting producers and studios in their transition and film production.
New additions to the 2026 EFM trade show include EFM Beyond, a program aimed at producers and focused on multimedia collaboration opportunities between film, animation, video games, and more. EFM Beyond's focus is on generating additional revenue by expanding IP across multiple media platforms. Furthermore, EFM 2026 will feature the EFM Startup Program, showcasing businesses with their projects; and the EFM Investor Forum, bringing together film and media finance leaders to discuss private and public funding.
EFM 2026 will also include: EFM Frontières Focus, showcasing new film projects currently in the funding or production stages; the new Berlin Film School conference, providing 100 students, directors, and producers with access to EFM and Berlinale Pro services; the EFM Far East in Progress program, presenting Asian films in post-production; the Berlin Film Market, showcasing television productions; intensive classes and workshops on global filmmaking...
