On December 13th, the Regional Political Academy IV and the Can Tho City Political School jointly organized a ministerial-level scientific seminar on the theme "Developing private enterprises in the Mekong Delta region in accordance with Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW".
In her opening remarks at the seminar, Dr. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Loan, Principal of the Can Tho City Political School, stated: According to statistics from 2024, Vietnam's private sector has experienced strong growth, currently accounting for over 50% of GDP, contributing over 30% to the national budget, creating jobs for over 43.5 million workers (accounting for 82% of the total employed workforce), and representing approximately 56% of total social investment. Many large private corporations have been established and expanded regionally, playing a crucial role in technological innovation, market leadership, and participation in global value chains.
In the current context, the Politburo's issuance of Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW dated May 4, 2025, on the development of the private economy is of particular importance, affirming that the private economy is "one of the most important driving forces of the national economy." The Resolution also sets out major directions to overcome the bottlenecks hindering the development of this sector.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Loan emphasized that the Mekong Delta region has great potential in agriculture, fisheries, processing industries, renewable energy, logistics services, and ecotourism. However, the region also faces many challenges such as inconsistent infrastructure, especially transportation and logistics; increasingly complex climate change; low technological levels of businesses; weak management and value chain linkage capabilities; a majority of small and micro-sized enterprises; and a shortage of high-quality human resources… These limitations directly affect the efficiency and competitiveness of private enterprises in the region.
Based on this practical experience, the scientific seminar aimed to analyze and accurately assess the current state of private economic development in the Mekong Delta; and to fully identify the influencing factors in the new context. In particular, delegates analyzed and clarified the need to apply the spirit of Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW to the specific conditions of the region, thereby proposing feasible solutions to create new impetus for the rapid and sustainable development of the private enterprise sector.
At the seminar, delegates discussed issues such as promoting the role of local Party committees and authorities, and the role of associations in the development of private enterprises in the Mekong Delta. Representatives from businesses also raised obstacles and proposed solutions in accessing digital technology, capital, standardizing corporate governance, and developing human resources to meet requirements.
