On July 31, in Dong Gia Nghia ward (Lam Dong), the Department of Agriculture and Environment and Bayer Vietnam Co., Ltd. held a workshop to summarize the cooperation program on safe and effective use of pesticides on durian trees.

Attending the event were leaders of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ; representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province and 80 durian farming households.

In Lam Dong, durian is a key crop with high economic value. However, the production process faces many challenges regarding product quality and pesticide residues.
Over the past time, Bayer Vietnam has coordinated with state management agencies and farmers to promote sustainable farming solutions, focusing on raising awareness and capacity for farmers in using pesticides safely, effectively and responsibly.

In particular, Lam Dong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center and Bayer Vietnam have implemented many activities to improve professional capacity, equip knowledge about "4 rights" (right time; right medicine; right concentration, dosage; right way) and "5 golden principles" (always be careful and comply with the 4 rights; read and understand information on the medicine label; use appropriate protection; be careful when spraying and maintain the pump well; practice personal hygiene) in cultivation and use of plant protection drugs.
Through professional training sessions and the implementation of 12 model intensive farming models, Lam Dong farmers have gradually changed their behavior in using pesticides from spontaneously and based on experience to using the right techniques, following the right procedures, and following safety guidelines.
The implementation process not only helps growers protect their health and the environment but also brings high economic efficiency.
Specifically, durian achieved an average yield of 22-30 tons/ha (2 tons/ha higher than the control), the rate of grade 1 fruit was over 80%, and net profit increased by 161 - 250 million VND/ha.
Evaluating the cooperation program between Bayer Vietnam Co., Ltd. and Lam Dong Agriculture Department in durian cultivation and production, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Manh, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, said that this is a typical example of public-private cooperation to improve production efficiency and the value of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market.

Based on the successes achieved, in the coming time, Mr. Manh said that the parties need to continue to maintain and expand the cooperation program, in which priority is given to concentrated durian production areas and those with potential for further development in raw material areas for processing and export.
