Heartbreaking image of school covered in mud after flash flood

A sudden flash flood occurred on the night of September 30 in Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district ( Nghe An ), causing a number of houses and schools to be flooded. Luong Minh Primary Boarding School suffered hundreds of millions of dong in damage.

At around 10pm on September 30, a flash flood occurred in Luong Minh commune, causing some houses and schools to be submerged. Local residents and the commune authorities had to evacuate people and belongings in some heavily flooded areas. Many properties and belongings were swept away and damaged.

The flash flood caused heavy damage to 4 villages of Luong Minh commune, of which the most damaged village was Ban Dua. Other villages such as Minh Tien, Minh Thanh, Cham Puong also lost many properties and houses due to the flood. Thanks to timely detection, when the flood swept through Luong Minh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, there were no casualties as hundreds of students and teachers were able to evacuate.

Immediately after the flash floods, landslides occurred in the area, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Tuong Duong district established a working group headed by the Chairman of the District People's Committee to directly go to the scene, direct the recovery, help people, and handle complicated incidents. The police, military and mass organizations coordinated to overcome the consequences, organize cleaning, environmental sanitation, and spray disinfectant to prevent and control epidemics.

On the afternoon of October 2, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - Principal of Luong Minh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Luong Minh Commune, Tuong Duong District, Nghe An) said: After 2 days of flash floods, the entire political system, together with the school's teachers and parents, joined in to help the school clean up, so that students could return to school as soon as possible.

Mr. Thanh said that hundreds of textbooks of students were submerged by floodwaters; stainless steel water tanks were broken; 2.5 tons of rice for boarding school were damaged... the total damage is estimated at about 300 million VND. Currently, the school has requested all levels and sectors to focus on supporting the school with boarding school supplies, books, school supplies for students and disinfecting the school area to prevent epidemics after the flood.
