The resilient 'pink warriors' overcome the 'challenge' of breast cancer

Breast cancer is the most common disease in Vietnamese women. According to statistics, each year our country records 24,563 new cases of breast cancer, accounting for 28.9% of the total number of cancer cases in women. Screening and early detection of breast cancer in women 40 years of age and older plays an important role.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Hung - Chairman of the Association of Social Workers in the Health Sector, Member of the Council of the Cancer Patient Support Fund - Bright Tomorrow emphasized this information at the breast cancer patient forum with the theme "Modern beautiful women, not afraid of difficulties" taking place this afternoon (November 4), in Hanoi within the framework of the campaign "Join hands for the woman I love" in 2025.

The event was organized by the Cancer Patient Support Fund - Bright Tomorrow in collaboration with Roche Pharma Vietnam, AstraZeneca Vietnam and partners to respond to Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025.

Detected early, breast cancer can be completely cured.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tuan Hung, breast cancer is a disease that can be completely cured if detected early. Breast cancer patients are currently being approached and treated with scientifically standard regimens, suitable for each individual's physical condition and condition. Therefore, understanding and getting into the habit of screening for early detection of cancer, especially breast cancer when women enter the risk age is extremely important.

"Therefore, the forum "Modern beautiful women, not afraid of difficulties" is an opportunity for "pink warriors" to meet and listen to in-depth sharing from leading experts on breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, and to have their questions answered during and after treatment. This is also a space for patients and medical staff to exchange and share experiences, spread strength and optimism.

With the message "Modern beautiful women, not afraid of difficulties", the program honors the image of modern Vietnamese women, those who always love themselves, proactively take care of their health and resiliently face all challenges. They are not only the main characters in their own stories but also a source of inspiration for the whole community" - Associate Professor Hung said.

At the forum, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Cam Phuong, Director of the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Oncology, Bach Mai Hospital, shared about how to deal with crises in breast cancer treatment. Dr. Phuong emphasized the importance of recognizing and promptly handling difficult situations, helping patients overcome challenging stages in the treatment journey.

At the same time, Dr. Le Thi Yen, Head of Internal Medicine Department, K Hospital, updated the latest advances in breast cancer treatment, from targeted therapies to modern immunotherapy, bringing hope and more effective treatment opportunities for patients.

Spreading the spirit of overcoming illness "Join hands for the woman I love"

The forum "Modern beautiful women, not afraid of difficulties" is one of the outstanding activities of the campaign "Join hands for the woman I love" in 2025, along with programs such as free breast cancer screening for 2,500 women, the "Pink train" Cat Linh - Ha Dong, or "Lighting up the pink building" in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The campaign, launched by the Bright Tomorrow Fund – Ministry of Health in 2012, has helped millions of people access information about breast cancer and supported more than 80,000 high-risk women to receive free screening. The program's goal is to raise public awareness, encourage women to form the habit of regular screening, and call for the whole society to join hands in supporting and accompanying patients.

The "pink warriors" spread the spirit of victory over breast cancer.

Through this series of activities, the campaign hopes to continue to create a strong influence, contributing to providing opportunities to proactively and sustainably care for and protect the health of Vietnamese women.

The series of programs "Breast Cancer Patient Forum" will be held directly in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to help patients update and understand correctly about treatment methods, and is also an opportunity for medical staff and patients to meet, share experiences and encourage patients, helping patients recover during or after the treatment process.

The Fund will also continue to implement the "Free Breast Cancer Screening" activity for nearly 5,000 women aged 40 and over in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hue City. The program will include clinical examination, ultrasound and suspected cases will be given a mammogram.

The highlight of this year will be the Pink Trains moving through the main stations of Hanoi Capital to raise public awareness about breast cancer as well as calling on women to screen for breast cancer and have regular check-ups every year.

The Light Up the Building Pink event in October is a commitment from society to support, accompany and raise awareness of breast cancer.

October is known worldwide as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” – also known as “Pink October” – to raise awareness of breast cancer and encourage early screening. In Vietnam, the Ministry of Health and the Bright Tomorrow Foundation are among the pioneers in implementing communication campaigns and breast cancer screening in Vietnam.
