Nguyen Thi Oanh shines with 14 gold medals, setting a new record for Vietnamese athletics.

Nguyen Thi Oanh is truly a legend of Vietnamese athletics. From the 2017 SEA Games to the present, she has consistently won gold medals, becoming a major name in middle-distance running. From the 1,500m to the 5,000m and 10,000m, Oanh has always amassed an incredibly impressive collection of achievements. Even when having to adjust her performance to share some of the race with her teammates, Oanh remains an exceptionally strong athlete in every event she participates in.

After winning her first gold medal in the 5,000m event, the Suphachalasai Stadium in Bangkok erupted with continuous cheers and prolonged applause for the petite Vietnamese athlete on the afternoon of December 15th. In the 10,000m event, Oanh was once again unrivaled. Her nimble stride, neat movements, and well-balanced energy distribution allowed her to not only be proactive in her performance but also to make a remarkably quick burst of speed in the final stretch. Oanh wanted to set a new record, but ultimately she achieved a time of 34 minutes 27 seconds 93, surpassing her own best of 35 minutes 11 seconds 53 at the 32nd SEA Games.

This was her double gold medal win at the 33rd SEA Games and her 14th gold medal overall, making her the athlete with the most gold medals for Vietnamese athletics. Sharing her feelings, Oanh said: "I am very happy to have won two events in two consecutive days. I dedicate this victory to everyone who wholeheartedly cheered me on, and thank the fans who came to the stadium to support me enthusiastically."

A triumphant return after injury.

Quách Thị Lan is also a big name in Vietnamese athletics. She won a gold medal at the 2019 Asian Championships in the 400m hurdles and a gold medal at the 2021 SEA Games, but persistent injuries forced her to stop for a while, at times almost leading her to retire from running. However, her intense love for the sport, her burning passion, and her desire to overcome her own limitations helped this girl from Thanh Hoa province to forge the willpower to make a strong comeback.

She displayed exceptional competitive spirit to win the SEA Games 33 with a time of 56.82 seconds. Lan proved her unwavering determination and extraordinary willpower to continue achieving success for Vietnamese athletics.
