What benefits do citizens enjoy when they join the army?

According to Article 4 of the 2015 Law on Military Service, all Vietnamese citizens of military service age, regardless of ethnicity, social status, beliefs, religion, education level, occupation, or place of residence, must perform military service.

While serving in the military, citizens will enjoy the following benefits:

First, social insurance regime

Point a, Clause 1, Article 7 of Circular No. 95/2016/TT-BQP clearly states that the service time of non-commissioned officers and soldiers is counted as the time of social insurance payment to serve as the basis for calculating social insurance benefits according to regulations.

Second, annual leave

Pursuant to Article 3 of Decree No. 27/2016/ND-CP, non-commissioned officers and soldiers serving in the army are entitled to leave as follows:

Non-commissioned officers and soldiers serving on active duty from the 13th month onwards are entitled to 10 days of annual leave (not including departure and return days).

Non-commissioned officers and soldiers who have taken annual leave according to the regime, if their family encounters a natural disaster, serious fire, or a relative dies or goes missing, or the non-commissioned officer or soldier makes particularly outstanding achievements in performing his/her duties, will be given special leave of no more than 05 days (not including the days of departure and return).

In addition, these subjects are also paid train and car fares and travel allowances according to current regulations. If due to mission requirements, combat or service in a place with difficult travel conditions, they cannot take leave, they will be paid in cash at the following rates:

The amount of payment for one day without leave = The basic daily food allowance for non-commissioned officers and infantry soldiers

Third, additional allowances when extending military service

In addition to the military rank allowances, non-commissioned officers and soldiers serving in the army when extending their service period, from the 25th month onwards, they will receive an additional 250% of the current military rank allowance each month according to the provisions of Clause 1, Article 4 of Decree 27/2016/ND-CP.

However, this allowance does not apply to non-commissioned officers and soldiers waiting to transfer to professional military status, waiting to go to school, take entrance exams, or studying at academies and schools inside and outside the Army.

Fourth, incentive allowance for women

Clause 2, Article 4 of Decree 27/2016/ND-CP clearly states: Female non-commissioned officers and soldiers serving in the army are entitled to a monthly incentive allowance of 0.2 compared to the basic salary.

Currently, the basic salary applied is 1.8 million VND/month. Therefore, every month, female non-commissioned officers and soldiers serving in the army receive an incentive allowance of 360,000 VND/month.

Fifth, no postage or shipping fees

According to Article 5 of Decree 27/2016/ND-CP, non-commissioned officers and soldiers on active duty are exempted from postage when transferring money, postal items, and parcels; are given 4 postage stamps/month. Priority points are added when participating in recruitment.

Before joining the army, if a member of a poor household or a student borrows money from the Social Policy Bank, repayment will be deferred and interest will not be charged during the time in the army.

What benefits do families of non-commissioned officers and soldiers on active duty enjoy?

Pursuant to Article 6 of Decree 27/2016/ND-CP, relatives of non-commissioned officers and soldiers on active duty are entitled to the following benefits:

Houses affected by accidents, fires, natural disasters leading to collapse or damage: Subsidy of 3 million VND/person/time.

Relatives who are sick for 1 month or more or treated at a hospital for 7 days or more: Subsidy of 500,000 VND/relative/time. Relatives who have passed away or are missing: Subsidy of 2 million VND/person. Biological and legally adopted children are exempted or have their tuition fees reduced.

How much money do discharged citizens receive?

According to Clause 1, Article 7 of Decree 27/2016, when discharged from the army, non-commissioned officers and soldiers will receive a one-time discharge allowance. Specifically, for each year of service in the Army, they will receive a subsidy equal to 2 months of the basic salary according to the Government 's regulations at the time of discharge. Currently, the basic salary is 1.8 million VND/month, so for each year of service in the Army, non-commissioned officers and soldiers will receive a one-time discharge allowance of 7.2 million VND (because citizens will perform their duties within 24 months).

Military service time with odd months is calculated as follows: Less than 1 month: Not entitled to discharge allowance. From 1 - 6 months: Receive allowance equal to 1 month of basic salary. From 6 - 12 months: Receive allowance equal to 2 months of basic salary.

Non-commissioned officers and soldiers who have served in the army for 30 months will be granted an additional 2 months of their current military rank allowance upon discharge. If discharged before the 30-month period, those who have served in the army from the 25th month to less than 30 months will be granted an additional 1 month of their current military rank allowance.

In addition, according to Article 8 of Decree 27, non-commissioned officers and soldiers who complete their military service after being discharged will enjoy the following training, vocational training, and employment benefits:

Be accepted to continue studying at schools that you were studying at before joining the army or have a call-up notice.

If you need vocational training and meet the requirements, you will receive vocational training support.

Be accepted and assigned to work at the place where you worked before joining the army. Be guaranteed income, salary, wages...

Demobilized non-commissioned officers and soldiers returning to their localities are given priority in job placement and points for recruitment of civil servants and public employees; During the probationary period, they receive 100% of the salary and allowances of the recruitment category corresponding to their training level.

Job creation allowance: The allowance level is equal to 6 months of basic salary at the time of discharge.

In particular, when discharged from the army, the unit will see them off and take them back to their place of residence or provide train and car fares and travel allowances.
