The application of technology to pineapple growing in Long Hung commune has become familiar to many people.
The “Digital Farmer” model in Long Hung commune was deployed to create conditions for farmers to meet, exchange experiences, share initiatives and good practices in production. Through this model, all levels and sectors will guide people to use digital devices, smartphones, use online public services, and use digital platforms to serve production labor and daily needs.
After two months of implementation, the model has received positive responses from farmers. Thanks to the application of technology, many households have clearly changed their thinking and working methods. Many households growing MD2 Pineapple in the commune have effectively applied digital technology to look up pests and diseases or drones to spray pesticides, which has become a familiar thing, helping to save costs, increase productivity and economic efficiency.
Mr. Tran Phi Hung, My Khanh B hamlet, shared: “When visiting a pineapple field, if I detect signs of pests or diseases on the plants, I just need to use my smartphone to take a picture and look it up on the pre-installed application to determine the cause and how to treat it immediately. It is much more convenient and accurate than before.”
Not only stopping at looking up information, Mr. Hung also hired a drone service to spray pesticides on an area of more than 1 hectare of pineapple. “It only cost nearly 300,000 VND and it was completed after 10 minutes, saving time and money, and protecting my health. Previously, I needed 2 people to spray manually, so it took a lot of time,” Mr. Hung said.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Ly Thanh Phong in the same hamlet said that thanks to the conversion of suitable crops and the application of technology in production, economic efficiency will increase compared to traditional production methods. With an area of more than 1 hectare of MD2 pineapples, which are guaranteed by the enterprise at a selling price of 5,500 VND/kg, last year, after deducting expenses, Mr. Phong earned about 15 million VND per hectare. "Previously, I grew sugarcane and bananas depending on market prices. Now, I grow pineapples with a guaranteed contract and apply digital technology , so I feel very secure in production," said Mr. Phong.
In the spirit of learning from experience to replicate the "Digital Farmer" model, the leaders of Long Hung commune determined that this is the first step towards building many digital farmer activity points in the remaining hamlets, forming a network of digital learning communities in rural areas.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dien, Chairman of Long Hung Commune People's Committee, in the new context, especially the digital economy and smart agriculture are developing very rapidly, the application of technology in production is an inevitable way to increase productivity, increase value, reduce costs and connect to the market. The "Digital Farmer" model is not simply about people knowing how to use smartphones, but is a new method of organizing production, associated with access to market information, quality seedlings, advanced farming techniques, weather, disease prevention, traceability of crops, etc.
From farmers with “muddy hands and feet”, many people in Long Hung commune have now confidently entered the digital space. Each smartphone and each remote-controlled aircraft is no longer a strange thing but has become a new “production tool” in rural areas. With the right orientations of the Party Committee, the government and the spirit of mastering technology of farmers, agricultural production in Long Hung will develop more and more sustainably, and people's lives will be improved.
In addition to the "Digital Farmer" model, Long Hung commune also strives to carry out digital transformation in all fields with the goal of developing a digital government to serve people and businesses, serving the direction and administration of state agencies; developing a digital economy with a focus on businesses and digital technology products, as a driving force to promote the development of digital economy in industries and fields; developing a digital society to support people in accessing public services, training, and knowledge.
