Meritorious Artist Le Thien: Happy to be invited to act in movies at old age

Participating in a role in the film project A Tourist's Guide To Love produced by Netflix, Meritorious Artist Le Thien shared that she felt she learned a lot and hopes to learn even more.

Meritorious Artist Le Thien and Quinn Truc Tran are two Vietnamese actors participating in this special project. In the film, she plays the grandmother of Sinh (played by Scott Ly) - a local tour guide, in charge of leading tours for foreign visitors to explore the three regions of Vietnam.

The role in the film brings many interesting things to Meritorious Artist Le Thien.

Sharing about the opportunity to participate in this project, she said that coming to the project was quite a surprise. Already affectionately called “national grandmother” by fans, she once again had the opportunity to play the role of grandmother in the film.

“I feel happy that even though I am old, I am still invited to act in films. I hope that through this project I will learn many things. Even though I am old, I feel that I always learn a lot from my co-stars,” she shared.

According to Meritorious Artist Le Thien, what she appreciates most about this project is that the scriptwriter and director have a deep understanding of Vietnamese customs and practices.

During the filming with foreign actors, she and the actors had practiced quite thoroughly, especially the scenes depicting Tet customs and practices. She also said that the actors' awkwardness, from having to sit cross-legged, holding chopsticks... was very cute.

The actors brought many interesting stories during the making of the film.

Also according to Meritorious Artist Le Thien, with the duration of a movie, it is certainly impossible to convey all aspects of Vietnamese culture, so it is inevitable that there will be things that are not really as expected.

For actress Quinn Truc Tran, this project is even more special because it is a chance for her to return to cinema. Before that, after entering the film industry in 2017, she thought she had no fate with art, so she decided to switch to an office job and did not think about returning to acting.

However, during her time off to prepare for her new job, she was invited to participate in the casting of this project and was lucky enough to be chosen for the role. She revealed that after this project, she will decide to return to acting.

“I think this project is a great opportunity to exchange culture and open up many new opportunities for me,” said Truc Tran.

As an actor with Vietnamese blood, Scott Ly also shared that returning to Vietnam to film this time is like a dream for him.

The film brings beautiful and unique images of Vietnam.

The script for A Tourist's Guide To Love was written by Eirene Donohue, a Vietnamese-American screenwriter. She shared that the love journey of the two characters in the film was based on her own real-life story.

In real life, Eirene also had a love affair with a tourist during her trip to Hanoi more than 20 years ago.

She hopes that through the film, people will have a new perspective on Vietnam, a country that not only has many beautiful landscapes and delicious food, but Vietnamese people are also very happy, love life, cherish family, love and always have a connection between history, tradition and modernity.

She also shared that the film is not just a journey of experiencing tourist destinations. It is also a journey of emotions.

A Tourist's Guide To Love revolves around the story of Amanda Riely (Rachael Leigh Cook) - a travel specialist who, after a broken love affair, decides to go to Vietnam for both work and to find balance and a new self. During the trip, she meets Sinh - a Vietnamese tour guide. Through their journey together, their love blossoms.

As planned, the film will be shown globally on Netflix platform, starting April 21.
