Gia Lai 9th grade female student was beaten by her classmates in an empty lot, to the cheers of her classmates.

On March 19, Mr. Phan Tan Quang, Principal of Le Quy Don Secondary School (Dak Djrang Commune, Mang Yang District) said that he had worked with students and parents about the incident and was waiting for results from the police to have a direction to handle and deter each violator.

"The female student who was beaten is mentally stable and has returned to school since yesterday," said Mr. Quang.

Previously, on March 12, after school, a group of female students met at an empty lot about 3 km from the school to resolve a conflict on social media. One female student was attacked by 4 friends (including two classmates) who grabbed her hair, slapped her, and kicked her in the head.

The victim was attacked repeatedly and fell to the ground. Many classmates stood nearby cheering, swearing, and using their phones to record the incident. The video of the female student being beaten, which lasted more than 4 minutes, later went viral online. Her family discovered the incident and immediately took her to the hospital for examination and reported it to the authorities.

"She suffered head injuries, skin abrasions and bruises," said Nguyen Le Trung Hoang, the beaten girl's brother. He said that after the incident, his sister was very scared and had to miss a week of school.

School violence is a persistent problem in the education sector, according to reports from the Ministry of Education and Training . According to regulations, disciplinary action for students who violate the rules includes three forms: warning, reprimand, and temporary suspension from school.

In known cases, the common punishment for students who beat their friends is a demotion and suspension from school for 1-2 weeks. A few schools such as Nguyen Van Troi Secondary School in Ho Chi Minh City punish them by reading books or Buon Trap Secondary School in Dak Lak punish students who beat their friends with demotion and hard labor.
