Volleyball player Thanh Thúy is being sought after like a superstar in Thailand.

Besides the athletes from the host country, Vietnamese women's volleyball player Tran Thi Thanh Thuy received a lot of attention from fans.

In the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, Thanh Thúy is the brightest star. She is one of only two members of the team currently playing abroad. Specifically, Thanh Thúy plays for Gunma Green Wings in Japan and has had some outstanding performances.

Previously, she had also made many other overseas trips to Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Türkiye, Indonesia, etc. Therefore, Thanh Thúy is one of the top volleyball stars in Southeast Asia, alongside Thai athletes.

Therefore, at the 33rd SEA Games, she was sought after like a superstar. Especially after the semi-final match against the Philippines on the afternoon of December 14th, many Vietnamese and Thai fans stayed at the stadium to interact with Thanh Thúy. Many people lined up just to wait to take photos and ask for autographs from the Vietnamese star.

Even athletes from other countries tried every way to approach Thanh Thúy. One of them was Malaysian setter Chiao Huey Goh. On his Instagram account, Chiao Huey Goh shared a photo with the Vietnamese outside hitter along with the caption: "I can't believe how hard she worked! The skin where she wore knee protectors was scratched, thickened, and bruised. Amazing! She is so persistent and hardworking!"

Why is Thanh Thúy so famous even in Thailand, home to the strongest women's volleyball team in Southeast Asia?

Anoma Thongmanogoon, a writer for the Thai Volleyball Association (TVA), offered her comments. She stated: "You know, Thanh Thúy is not just a star, but also an icon. The fact that she has risen above the Southeast Asian region and shone abroad has attracted a lot of attention."

That made Thanh Thúy even more famous. And when you're famous, everyone wants to interact with you, see you compete in person, and maybe ask for an autograph or a photo. In all my years in the profession, I've never seen Thai fans welcome a Vietnamese volleyball player so warmly and show so much affection."

On the afternoon of December 15th, Niya Worawongkunakorn, a female fan from Thailand, was present at the Huamark Arena to watch the SEA Games 33 women's volleyball final. She shared: "Yesterday I also came here to watch Thanh Thúy play in the SEA Games semi-final against the Philippines. I also came here a few months ago to cheer her on at the Women's World Volleyball Championship."
