The 2025 high school graduation exam will be organized according to the new general education program. Each student will take 4 subjects, of which Literature and Mathematics are two compulsory subjects. The remaining two subjects are elective, students can choose from the subjects that have been organized to teach and evaluate learning outcomes according to the 12th grade program. The elective subjects are divided into three groups: the Social Sciences group (KHXH) including History, Geography, Economic Education and Law; the Natural Sciences group (KHTN) including Physics, Chemistry, Biology; the independent subjects group including Foreign Languages, Information Technology, Technology.
From the test results...
Right from the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, 12th grade students in the province had to make a decision on choosing a combination of subjects for the high school graduation exam according to the new regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training . The flexibility in the structure of subject combinations is expected to open up great opportunities for students to develop according to their personal abilities, creating favorable conditions for early career orientation. According to the results of the first high school graduation mock exam, nearly 70% of students in the province chose the social sciences group, while only about 30% chose natural sciences. The average score of the social sciences group exam was 6.37 points (fair), while the natural sciences group was only 5.99 points, significantly lower.
The general results from the mock exam show that most schools have higher average scores in the Social Science exam, while Natural Science subjects with extensive knowledge and high requirements for interdisciplinary application have lower average scores. However, there are still exceptions in some schools with strengths in Natural Science subjects, such as Chu Van An High School for the Gifted and the Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, with quite high average Natural Science exam results, ranging from 7.1 to 7.6 points.
According to the analysis report of the results of the first mock high school graduation exam in 2025 by the provincial Department of Education and Training, the picture of the recent mock exam not only reflects the trend of choosing the subject combination but also points out the weaknesses in the general academic foundation of students. Mathematics continues to be a worrying "low point", with the average score of the whole province only reaching about 4.02 points, much lower than the graduation standard requirement (only 24.4% of candidates scored 5 points or higher, 75.6% below 5 points). At the same time, the subjects in the Natural Science group also recorded many below-average exams, while on the contrary, Literature had a fairly high average score rate, with 81.8% of candidates scoring 5 points or higher.
Evaluating the results of the mock exam, Mr. Hoang Van Thao, Deputy Head of the Secondary Education Department, Department of Education and Training emphasized: This mock exam reflected the students' learning situation, strengths in social subjects, and clear weaknesses in Mathematics and natural sciences. In particular, the skills of applying knowledge into practice and solving situations are still limited. This is an important basis for the department's leadership staff to direct schools to adjust the review plan in the final stage.
Come adjust your study plan
The 2025 high school graduation exam is expected to take place at the end of June 2025. Immediately after the trial exam, the Department of Education and Training issued a document directing schools to review the entire education plan, adjust the content and review time flexibly, in accordance with the actual capacity of students. The focus is on core knowledge, closely following the new high school graduation exam matrix of the Ministry of Education and Training; at the same time, survey the wishes of each student to choose graduation exam subjects to organize appropriate review classes, group by capacity to have effective review methods: increase tutoring for average and weak groups; promote practice of highly differentiated questions for good and excellent groups.
In fact, many schools have adjusted their review plans right after the trial exam. At Huu Lung High School, the school organizes two review sessions every day: in the morning, they focus on consolidating basic knowledge, and in the afternoon, they divide the groups into practice questions according to each exam block (the subject group that students have chosen), closely following the structure and sample question format of the Ministry of Education and Training. Similarly, Viet Bac High School proactively implements a "dual training" program, both supporting average and weak students to consolidate their knowledge and training good and excellent students with an advanced practice system. Chu Van An High School for the Gifted - the leading unit in the province in terms of trial exam results - continues to promote its strengths through organizing specialized discussion sessions and practicing skills in handling difficult exercises to maintain high performance for students and at the same time avoid subjectivity.
Along with adjusting the review plan at schools, the Department of Education and Training also pays special attention to teacher training. In March 2025, the Department organized 9 training courses with the participation of 769 teachers of high school graduation exam subjects in the province. The content of the training courses focused on orienting review methods according to output standards, updating the official exam structure; at the same time, creating conditions for teachers of schools to discuss and share review questions and teaching experiences to unify the quality level in the whole province. Through these training courses, the Department of Education and Training requires schools to strengthen the management of review quality, each unit must strictly control the review plan and program of each subject by week and month; regularly attend review classes, organize professional activities to gain experience, ensure that review teaching is in the right direction, closely following the requirements of the exam.
According to the results of the first mock high school graduation exam, nearly 70% of students in the province chose the social sciences group, while only about 30% chose natural sciences. The average score for the social sciences group exam was 6.37 points (fair), while the natural sciences group only scored 5.99 points, significantly lower. |
In addition, the application of information technology and artificial intelligence in review is promoted as an effective support solution. Many schools have established online study groups on social networking platforms to assign assignments and answer questions for students; some teachers use software to create test questions and automatically grade them, even exploit AI tools to suggest new review questions, enriching test preparation materials. These innovations not only make students more interested in learning but also help teachers save time, focus on analyzing results and adjusting teaching methods promptly.
In addition to the active participation of schools and the education sector, the proactive role of students in self-study is affirmed to be the decisive factor in the success or failure of the upcoming exam. Records at high schools show that many students have clearly identified their exam subjects, made scientific study plans, allocated reasonable time for each subject, regularly practiced test questions, self-evaluated their progress and persistently adjusted their study strategies accordingly. In particular, for students whose test results were not as expected, the recent test became a motivation for them to change their study methods and make double efforts.
Do Phuong Mai, a 12A6 student at Hoang Van Thu High School (Lang Son City), shared: “After the mock exam, I created a detailed study schedule, dividing my time reasonably for each subject. I set goals for each week: review Math in the morning, practice Literature in the afternoon, practice English in the evening, every day.” Similarly, Le Huy Hoang, a 12A3 student at Huu Lung High School, said: “I focused more on Chemistry and Physics - two subjects I am weak at. The school organized very systematic review sessions, but I also took the initiative to practice more at home, correcting the questions I got wrong to improve.”
In less than two months, the official exam will take place. Time is running out, but with the strong direction of the education sector, the continuous efforts of schools, teachers, families and especially the persistent will to self-study of students, we believe that this year's high school graduation exam will end with positive results.
