France's 3-2 victory away at Rodez in the penultimate round allowed Pau FC – where Nguyen Quang Hai currently plays – to decide their own fate regarding Ligue 2 survival.
Pau had less possession in the match early this morning, May 27th ( Hanoi time), but opened the scoring thanks to a penalty kick by Yanis Begraoui in the 11th minute. Eight minutes later, Remy Boissier equalized for Rodez.
However, Mayron George and Begraoui scored in the 26th and 41st minutes respectively, helping Pau finish the first half with a 3-1 lead. Rodez's efforts in the remaining time were only enough to reduce the deficit to one goal thanks to Wilitty Younoussa in the 74th minute.
With a 3-2 victory, Pau moved up to 15th place with 44 points. Rodez and Laval are behind them with one point less.

In the 2022-2023 Ligue 2 season, the bottom four teams, from 17th to 20th place, will be relegated. Before the final round, Niort was at the bottom with 28 points, and Nimes – who had only 33 points – were already relegated.
The relegation battle currently consists of six teams, ranked from 13th to 18th: Valenciennes and FC Annecy – 45 points, Pau – 44 points, Rodez and Laval – 43 points, and Dijon – 42 points. With this situation, Didier Tholot's team holds its destiny in its own hands in the relegation race.
In the final round on June 3rd, Pau played at home against fifth-tier team Caen. The team suffered a setback when their captain and central defender Antoine Batisse was suspended after receiving a direct red card in the win against Rodez.
Pau will secure their survival in the league if they beat Caen. In case of a draw, Pau must hope that in the other match played at the same time, two of the three teams Rodez, Laval, and Dijon do not win. If they lose, Pau must hope that two of the three aforementioned teams also suffer the same result.
For midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai, his most recent match for the Pau FC first team was a 0-1 loss to Laval on February 18th. Following that, he played seven matches for Pau B in the French fifth division. In total, Quang Hai has played 13 matches for the first team since the beginning of the season, totaling 268 minutes and scoring one goal.
