Half of Pi Network's 'servers' are located in Vietnam

A large number of Pi Network's monitoring nodes are located in Vietnam, raising doubts about the 'global' nature of the project.

According to data from blockchain tracking platform Piscan , there are 163 network nodes of the Pi Network blockchain platform, located in Vietnam. Meanwhile, the project owns 334 processing points globally. This means that domestic users hold nearly half, equivalent to 49% of Pi's validator nodes.

Blockchain information identifies the distribution of nodes in Vietnam with 75 machines in the Northern region, 34 points in the Central region and 54 units in the Southern region. This number is many times higher than other regions with a large number of Pi miners such as China, India, Korea or Europe.

In addition to the tracking node, the validator is an important part to decide whether a transaction is approved. Currently, Pi Network has only two such units globally. But they are under the management of the project development team, 100% control rate. Therefore, the decentralization of the blockchain platform is questioned.

The concentration of geographically controlled nodes raises fairness concerns. Users in one country have significant control over the operation of the entire network.

Meanwhile, the regulatory constraints are also a major problem for the project. Vietnam does not recognize cryptocurrencies, including Pi, and prohibits their use as a means of payment. Many cases of using the aforementioned digital currency for trading have been handled.

Hanoi City Police (CATP) warns people about investing in Pi Network cryptocurrency. Authorities note that many websites advertise this form of buying and selling, attracting many individuals to participate. However, this poses many potential risks and is worrisome.

If the node running in Vietnam is interrupted due to regulations, this network could collapse due to the loss of nearly half of the management nodes.

How Pi nodes work is still a big question mark. Using Stellar consensus, the team says that users’ phones are part of a “security circle.” These nodes are now labeled “watchers.” The software that runs the node must run on a computer, not a phone. Operators receive more cryptocurrency.

When opening the network, Pi Network also launched a type of Super Node, with only 2 units, belonging to the developer. These are validators, responsible for verification.
