In the direction of sustainable industrial development, the province is focusing on promoting supporting industries associated with green-clean-circular transformation, creating a foundation for the processing and manufacturing industry to develop steadily and improve the competitiveness of local enterprises.

Currently, the whole province has about 40 enterprises operating in the supporting industry sector, accounting for nearly 3% of the total number of industrial production enterprises.

Creating a foundation for supporting industry development

Over the years, the province's supporting industries have gradually been formed and developed, focusing mainly on the following fields: mechanics, electrical and electronic components, construction materials, packaging, plastics, agricultural processing, etc. These are industries that play an important role in the production supply chain, helping businesses reduce dependence on imported raw materials and components, while increasing the added value of products.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, many enterprises have proactively invested in technological innovation, applied digitalization in production, increased productivity, saved energy and reduced emissions. The province proactively connected local enterprises with leading corporations and enterprises in the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City to expand the market for supplying supporting industry products.

Many young enterprises in the province are participating more deeply in the supply chain of components, packaging, and spare parts for processing factories, seafood, textiles, footwear, etc. To create a breakthrough, the province continues to improve investment incentive policies, support production premises, train technical human resources, promote trade, and transfer technology.

These are key factors that help local enterprises become competitive and gradually shift to a green, environmentally friendly production model.

According to Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, currently the whole province has about 40 enterprises operating in the field of supporting industries, accounting for nearly 3% of the total number of industrial manufacturing enterprises, meeting about 10% of the demand for supplying components and on-site support.

“Recently, the province has implemented a support industry development program with a total budget of more than 40 billion VND, focusing on technological innovation, human resource training, supply chain connection and collective brand development. At the same time, local and national industrial promotion programs have supported many enterprises in applying modern machinery and equipment, especially in the fields of agricultural and food processing and precision mechanics, helping to increase productivity by 25-30% and reduce costs by 15% compared to before. Thanks to these synchronous policies, many rural industrial products of the province have reached regional and national levels, affirming the brand "Made in Vinh Long " - both preserving local identity and meeting modern market standards" - Mr. Tuan said.

Meanwhile, regarding industrial promotion, Mr. Nguyen Van Dong Phuong - Director of the Center for Industrial Promotion and Trade Promotion said that supporting enterprises to invest in new equipment has helped improve productivity, quality, save energy and reduce production costs. Industrial promotion not only supports machinery but also acts as a catalyst for enterprises to boldly innovate and gradually approach advanced technology.

The supported models have all been effective, creating a strong ripple effect in the business community. The application of new equipment also helps improve working conditions for workers, especially women, while contributing to increasing the value of local industrial production.

Towards green growth

In the context of the country shifting to a green growth model, the province has identified supporting industries as one of the important components to help achieve this goal. Many industrial promotion programs, support for technological innovation, and incentives for businesses to invest in energy-saving and environmental protection equipment have been and are being implemented.

The province prioritizes the development of supporting industries with key industries being textiles and garments.

In parallel, new industrial zones and clusters are planned in the direction of "greening" - integrating modern technical infrastructure, ensuring circular economic criteria, saving resources, and reusing waste. Binh Minh Industrial Park, Hoa Phu, ... are considered highlights, aiming to attract "clean" supporting industrial enterprises in the fields of precision mechanics, electronics, deep processing of agricultural products...

What needs to be concerned is that currently, the development of the province's supporting industry still faces many difficulties, of which the biggest difficulty is the small scale of enterprises, limited financial and technological capacity, low localization rate (only about 15-20%), most of the raw materials still depend on imports.

In addition, there is a lack of highly skilled human resources and research and innovation in enterprises is not commensurate with their potential.

According to Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, these challenges require a more systematic and innovative approach, so that Vinh Long can not only "produce more" but also "produce smartly, greenly and with higher added value".

Thereby, the industry and trade sector aims that by 2030, the province will strive to become the center of agricultural and aquatic product processing and logistics in the Mekong Delta region, following the model of "Green industry - Clean agriculture - Modern e-commerce".

“Each product of Vinh Long is not only a commodity, but also a crystallization of local technology, culture and intelligence. The industry is committed to accompanying businesses, promoting the strength of supporting industries, e-commerce and digital transformation, turning this into a driving force for sustainable growth, contributing to building a prosperous and deeply integrated province,” Mr. Tuan emphasized.

To achieve the goal of green industry development, in the period 2025-2030, the industry identifies key groups of solutions.

In particular, focusing on developing agricultural and food processing industry in a modern, circular and green direction, striving for the added value of the processing industry to account for 70% of industrial production value by 2030.

In addition to developing supporting industries, priority is given to three key industries: textiles, garments, green footwear, precision mechanics, and electrical and electronic components. Gradually forming supporting industrial clusters associated with agricultural raw material areas, promoting links with FDI enterprises and neighboring areas.

“The province promotes e-commerce and digital transformation in the industry and trade sector, builds an e-commerce platform, digitizes OCOP products and typical rural industries. In particular, mobilizes and makes the most of national and local support programs, industrial promotion programs, trade promotion, technological innovation, helps small and medium enterprises access technology, capital, and markets in a sustainable way... Coordinates with universities and research institutes to train engineers and high-tech specialists, encourages enterprises to apply AI, IoT, clean technology and circular economic models..." - Mr. Tuan added.
