Service - tourism is the spearhead

More than 20 years ago, when it was separated from the old Cam An commune and formed a new administrative unit, Cua Dai ward only had 2 hotels, but now the whole ward has 39 homestays, tourist villas and hotels, attracting hundreds of thousands of domestic and foreign tourists to stay, visit and relax every year.

Cua Dai tourist port was invested in by the city to build on a large scale and operate effectively with 135 canoes belonging to more than 40 travel companies, creating conditions for tourists to visit Cu Lao Cham more and more.

Services among the people also developed strongly, many restaurants and bars were opened, the scope of trading among the people was increasingly expanded, not only on Cua Dai street, the beach but also expanded to Au Co, Lac Long Quan, Phu Dong Thien Vuong streets and riverside village tourism, commercial activities had quite a development, contributing to solving employment and improving people's lives.

Mr. Tran Van Khoa - Director of Jack Tran Tours Company said that tourism has brought many improvements. From a poor fishing village, Cua Dai has now changed a lot in terms of culture, society, economy and life.

“I believe that more and more tourists will come to Cua Dai when Cua Dai beach is restored, followed by changes in infrastructure and many other things. That is also a boost to help Cua Dai develop more strongly in the future,” said Mr. Khoa.

Along with the development of the tourism - service industry, Cua Dai ward also has strengths in seafood fishing. As a traditional profession, closely associated with the local community for generations, Cua Dai's seafood fishing profession has recently developed in an industrial direction with large-capacity boats, modern fishing equipment, capable of going far offshore and staying at sea for long periods. Up to now, the whole ward has 130 fishing boats operating at sea, with an average capacity of 224.4 CV/boat.

In addition, small-scale handicraft production industries are also facilitated for investment and development such as fishing logistics services, garment, carpentry, mechanics, contributing to shifting the labor structure, increasing income, stabilizing people's lives, contributing to increasing revenue for the local budget... The total budget revenue of the ward in 2024 will reach over 22 billion VND, 10 times higher than in 2004.

Urban change

Although Cua Dai is a locality with a low starting point in terms of urban infrastructure, over the past 20 years, it has invested in upgrading and creating significant changes in the urban appearance of the coastal ward. Many inter-regional and inter-block routes and routes in residential areas have been invested in construction and upgrading with nearly 4,000m of asphalt roads and more than 3,500m of concrete roads.

Phuoc Hai Bridge was also invested in construction with a budget of more than 20 billion VND. Xom Nhong, Xom Ghe, Xom Cau, Xom Cho, Xom Ga... were primitive, deserted fishing villages of the past, now wearing new clothes, becoming urban areas of Phuoc Trach, Phuoc Hai, new residential areas of Phuoc Hai, spacious and clean. People's houses were also newly built solidly and firmly...

Mr. Le Cong Sy - Chairman of Cua Dai Ward People's Committee said that the lighting system has been brought to residential areas, serving each household well, and communication facilities and services have also developed strongly. Public works and people's welfare such as offices, schools, medical stations, institutional areas, markets, cultural and sports centers... have been invested in construction and upgraded, meeting the living needs and spiritual life of the people.

As a coastal city with potential and advantages for future development, but currently suffering many impacts and direct impacts from climate change and severe coastal erosion, according to Mr. Nguyen Sinh - Secretary of the Ward Party Committee, one of the important tasks of the locality is to link economic development with activities to preserve and enhance natural landscapes and protect the environment to ensure stable and sustainable development. Only then will Cua Dai Ward become a rich, beautiful, civilized, safe and friendly coastal city.
