The Dragon Boat Festival saw Chinese cinema screens become "bustling" with a series of quality works hitting theaters. Films such as Gone Girl, I Love You or I'm Not a Gambler by Chow Yun Fat all had impressive revenue races, bringing in millions of NDT.

However, there are still many projects that are "ignored" by the audience during this holiday season, including a film called "Don't Laugh, Don't Laugh". Although it is a comedy, perhaps the title has unintentionally "affected" the fate of this film that has been "shelved" for 4 years.

"Don't Laugh, Don't Be Laughing" was produced in 2019 but was "pickled in vinegar" inexplicably, and was officially released in theaters during the recent Dragon Boat Festival. It is worth mentioning that the performance of this film is now becoming a topic of discussion, even making netizens laugh. Released on the holiday of June 22, the film encountered a "sluggish" situation and until the official release date of June 23, the film sold exactly 1 ticket worth 76 NDT (nearly 250 thousand VND). QQ and NetEase News rated "Don't Laugh, Don't Be Laughing" as the film with the worst performance in the 2023 Dragon Boat Festival film season.

The film project stars two actors in their forties, Tran Lam Sinh and Vuong Tu Tran, who are not too familiar to audiences. These two names are considered good at acting, but only specialize in drama, "literary" or underground fighting films. Recently, Vuong Tu Tran attracted attention when he acted in Who Is He with Truong Dich, playing the role of a rough "gangster". Although they have many years of experience in acting, the two have something in common - they have never acted in a comedy.

Yet the crew of Don't Laugh, Don't Laugh was brave enough to invite not 1, but 2 male actors who specialize in drama to act in... comedy. The film's content is about the male lead Tran Xuong's uncle and nephew driving home. After getting into an accident on the road, the large bag of money that Tran Xuong hid in the car suddenly flew out, creating a chaotic scene. After that, Tran Xuong had an even more "headache" when he was caught up in a series of troubles, that many people took advantage of the accident to steal that money from him.

NetEase News page reviews that Don't Laugh, Don't Laugh really can't make the audience laugh. In addition to the awkward acting of the male leads, the film is also criticized for its outdated, boring content and somewhat similar to the blockbuster Crazy Stone directed by Andy Lau and starring Huang Bo. The project tries to build a fierce chase to get the final "treasure" between many factions, but the construction is somewhat sloppy and of poor quality.

With a cast of "unknown" actors, a script lacking appeal, and pressure from "blockbuster" works of the same period, "Don't Laugh, Don't Laugh" was sure to have a bitter ending, completely opposite to Andy Lau's project that caused a box office explosion nearly 20 years ago.
