On September 11, 2023, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan held a working meeting at Movitel – Viettel's brand in Mozambique, as part of her official visit to the Republic of Mozambique.
Also attending the event were the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Mozambique, leaders of the Ministries of Information and Communications, Foreign Affairs, Planning and Investment, Industry and Trade, the Office of the President , and the Central Committee's Foreign Affairs Department.
Reporting to the Vice President, a representative from Movitel presented the company's operational results and its social and local contributions. Over 11 years of investment in Mozambique, Viettel has contributed to the popularization of telecommunications services, especially in rural and remote areas, thanks to its infrastructure of over 35,000 km of fiber optic cable and more than 2,000 base stations, providing coverage to 92.4% of the population in Mozambique.
To date, Movitel is one of the largest mobile network operators in Mozambique and holds 44.8% of the mobile market share. Movitel has also contributed $294 million, ranking among the top 3 highest-paying businesses in Mozambique.
In addition to creating stable jobs with incomes for over 100,000 workers, Movitel has actively supported the government and people of Mozambique in social responsibility activities, accumulating over $10 million USD.
Currently, Movitel is a pioneering enterprise in digital transformation for the government and ministries of Mozambique. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan expressed her particular impression of Viettel's success with its foreign investment model in Mozambique, acknowledging and highly appreciating the results that Movitel has achieved, contributing to socio-economic development, job creation, and social security in the host country.
The Vice President requested that Movitel develop astute strategies to continue maintaining the market share, reputation, and brand of both Viettel and Movitel. “Movitel should uphold the reputation and affection of the people of Mozambique and the Mozambican government. I expect Movitel to create new miracles in this new phase of development, contributing to promoting the solidarity, friendship, and cooperative development between Vietnam and Mozambique,” Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan concluded.
