Coordinate to protect railway safety

The railway line through Dong Nai province is a vital route but is facing many safety challenges, including the risk of unsafe crossings and the throwing of rocks and soil onto trains.

Faced with this situation, Dong Nai province's functional sectors are closely coordinating and proactively implementing many synchronous solutions to ensure safety for the smooth transportation of passengers and goods.

Lack of awareness, lurking railway dangers

In the first 8 months of 2025, Dong Nai province recorded 4 railway traffic accidents, killing 4 people. Although this number accounts for a small proportion of the total number of traffic accidents in the province (4 railway accidents out of 584 in the province), the severity of the railway accidents is worrying.

According to Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company, railway accidents often occur at intersections when drivers are not paying attention or deliberately cross the barriers. This situation not only directly threatens human lives but also disrupts transport schedules, affecting the entire railway system.

In addition, the throwing of soil, rocks, and dirt onto trains is also a burning issue. In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, there were 5 incidents recorded in localities across the province, causing property damage and potential risk of injury to passengers, affecting train safety.

The railway route through Dong Nai province is about 90km long, passing through 16 communes and wards: Bien Hoa, Tran Bien, Tam Hiep, Long Binh, Ho Nai, Binh Minh, Trang Bom, An Vien, Hung Thinh, Dau Giay, Xuan Lap, Long Khanh, Bao Vinh, Xuan Loc, Xuan Thanh and Xuan Hoa.

Not only that, at the intersections between railways and roads, there are often situations where drivers cannot control their speed, crash into the barrier, the barrier has been lowered, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents. Most recently, on the evening of August 24, at the intersection of the railway and the road through Dau Giay commune, a motorbike crashed straight into the barrier. Thanks to the quick response of two barrier guards and residents, an emergency signal was sent out in time, helping train SE12 stop safely. Previously, on the evening of August 22, at the intersection of the railway and the road through Long Khanh ward, a motorbike crashed into the barrier, but thanks to the timely coordination of the barrier guards and residents, the situation was resolved, avoiding the risk of an accident.

These incidents not only reflect the lack of awareness of a part of the people but also show the great challenges in ensuring railway traffic safety in Dong Nai province. To thoroughly resolve this situation, there needs to be more synchronous and drastic participation from functional agencies, local authorities and self-awareness of each citizen.

Review of railway safety corridor

Faced with issues of railway traffic safety, since the beginning of 2025, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province has directed localities with railway lines passing through to strictly implement coordination regulations, focus on thoroughly handling the situation of encroachment on safety corridors and resolving problems at intersections.

To realize these instructions, in March 2025, the Department of Construction, the Traffic Safety Committee of Dong Nai province and other relevant agencies coordinated with railway units to conduct field inspections and review existing problems. From there, solutions were agreed upon and implemented immediately, including: adding signs, repainting stop lines, installing speed bumps and handling the situation of trees obstructing the view. At the same time, the review and repair of damaged level crossing warning devices were also carried out.

According to the Traffic Safety Committee of Dong Nai province, on the part of local authorities, communes and wards with railway lines passing through are actively promoting propaganda and dissemination of railway traffic safety laws to each resident, especially those living along both sides of the railway. Localities also strengthen inspection and supervision of the performance of duties of guards at guard posts, ensuring that there are always people on duty 24/7 to prevent accidents.

Currently, Road Traffic Police Team No. 1 (Traffic Police Department of Dong Nai Province Police) regularly works with the police of communes and wards to patrol, control and strictly handle violations within the railway infrastructure. Cases of encroachment on safety corridors, illegal trading or construction are all reminded and promptly relocated.

These solutions not only contribute to ensuring the safety of passengers and people but also demonstrate the determination of Dong Nai province in building a civilized and modern railway transport system. With close coordination between agencies, authorities and people, Dong Nai sets the goal of gradually curbing railway traffic accidents, contributing to building a safe and synchronous traffic environment.
