Specifically, on rice, the golden apple snail currently causes damage with a common density of 1-3 snails/m2, high 5-10 snails/m2, locally more than 20 snails/m2. The small leaf roller causes damage with an average density of 2-3 snails/m2, high 5-8 snails/m2, locally 25-50 snails/m2. In addition, there are also objects such as: rats, stem borers, bacterial stripe disease, brown planthoppers, root suffocation disease, thrips, fruit flies ... causing scattered damage. It is known that up to now, the whole province has planted about 80 thousand hectares of winter-spring rice, reaching more than 85% of the plan.
People in Tan Tien ward cover their fields with plastic to prevent rats from causing damage. |
To protect the rice, farmers are focusing on care measures. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dieu, Tan Tien ward, said that this crop her family planted 3 sao of rice. This crop, rats harm both seedlings and newly planted rice, so the fields must be covered with plastic to limit the rats from biting and destroying them.
On vegetables, cutworms and root rot appear to damage peanuts; cutworms, leaf-eating caterpillars, and fall armyworms damage corn. On fruit trees, inchworms, leaf rollers, caterpillars, velvet spiders, stink bugs, aphids damage lychees; fruit flies, aphids, white spiders, red spiders, leaf miners, scabs, canker, and yellow leaf disease damage oranges.
It is forecasted that on rice, small leaf rollers, stem borers, and golden apple snails will continue to cause damage in low-lying, waterlogged, and newly planted fields. Rats will cause light to moderate damage in dry fields, fields along canal banks, villages, hills, and industrial zones, etc.
It is predicted that other pests will continue to arise and cause damage to crops if not prevented and controlled promptly.
Farmers check seedlings before planting. |
In the face of the above situation, in order to ensure productivity and product quality, contributing to ensuring income criteria per unit area of cultivated land in new rural construction, authorities recommend that farmers closely monitor the development of pests and diseases; organize prevention in areas with high pest density and disease rates.
At the same time, implement technical measures such as: Balanced and concentrated fertilization, reasonable water regulation to help plants grow and develop well, increase resistance to pests and diseases. Continue to implement measures to prevent golden apple snails, rats, and weeds that are harmful to rice.
