They marched through Boston Common, holding signs like "We're Not Going Back" and "Abortion is Health Care." Some men also joined them. The women's march took place in Boston, Washington DC and Kansas City, Missouri. Organizers urged people to vote on Election Day, noting that abortion rights are on the ballot in nine states. Tracy Murphy told reporters that she organized the march because she wanted to send a message, regardless of who wins the election. "The message today is that we want everyone to vote," Murphy said. Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022, abortion rights have become a state issue. The right to abortion has become a hot issue in the 2024 election, especially for women voters. A total of nine states will consider amending their laws protecting abortion rights, including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada and South Dakota. A majority of voters believe abortion should be legalized, with two-thirds favoring a nationwide law guaranteeing access to the service, according to a national poll conducted by
Fox News in March. Support for legal abortion rights has increased since the Roe v. Wade decision was overturned.

Overall, only about 7% think abortion should never be legal; 32% think abortion should be illegal except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the mother’s life. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump shifted his stance on abortion during the campaign, hoping to appeal to independents and some disillusioned Democrats. But he still opposes allowing late-term abortions. During the campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris blamed Trump, who nominated three justices to the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, for worsening
health care for women, and said he would further restrict it if elected.
