Phu Quoc and the tourism business community on the island are promoting digital transformation and green transformation towards sustainable tourism development.

On the afternoon of November 8, An Giang organized a workshop on digital transformation - green transformation of tourism businesses.

Many businesses and leaders of the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone People's Committee and related units discussed areas including: building a common digital platform; applying technology to green products; building digital tourist profiles to personalize services, using AI to forecast the number of visitors, optimizing resources, reducing waste and training in eco-tourism connections.

Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy - Chairman of An Giang Tourism Association - informed that tourism information in the world is booming with digitalization, with 70% of international visitors booking services through digital platforms; AI, VR, and Big Data technology help personalize each tourist.

Mr. Huy added that digital transformation and green transformation of tourism businesses will create new growth drivers. However, local tourism businesses are currently applying digital technology at a low level and awareness of green tourism is uneven, and tourism data is still scattered.

"An Giang wants to be the first smart green destination in the Mekong Delta. The locality needs to have a large accommodation facility with a green tour management system. Tourists can experience the entire tour through a single application and especially tourism businesses need to spread the green spirit from thinking and numbers from action," Mr. Huy emphasized.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan - Vice Chairwoman of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone People's Committee - said that Phu Quoc is promoting digital transformation and green transformation, aiming to become a green - smart - zero-emission island.

Green transformation is the way for Phu Quoc to protect its priceless sea and forest assets and develop sustainable tourism. The islanders need to be ambassadors for the environment and technology, joining hands to keep the pearl island green - clean - beautiful.

"Phu Quoc is facing a golden opportunity to reposition its brand on the international map. Digital transformation and green transformation will be the dual driving force for Phu Quoc to develop rapidly and sustainably, worthy of the potential and stature of a special economic zone of the sea and islands, welcoming the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum 2027 (APEC 2027)," said Ms. Loan.

Digital transformation and green transformation contribute to promoting Phu Quoc tourism

Ms. Quang Xuan Lua - Director of An Giang Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion - shared that tourism always plays a leading role in An Giang's economy.

Digital transformation and promoting and applying AI are necessary for the locality to promote Phu Quoc tourism to international visitors.

The locality hopes that businesses will work together to carry out digital transformation and green transformation to successfully implement tourism breakthroughs in the province, especially to welcome APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc.
