Myanmar military and rebel alliance agree to ceasefire

In a statement yesterday, China's Foreign Ministry said that the country had facilitated peace talks between the Myanmar military and Myanmar rebel groups in Kunming City (China) from January 10-11, through which both sides agreed to stop fighting and resolve disputes through negotiations.

Myanmar's Shan State has seen a lot of fighting since the rebel alliance launched an offensive against the military in late October 2023. In total, the alliance claims to have captured at least 422 bases and seven towns from the Myanmar military since October 27, 2023, according to AFP.
