Quang Nam spends 158 billion VND to exempt and reduce tuition fees for students

On the afternoon of September 26, at the 26th session of the 10th term Quang Nam Provincial People's Council, delegates voted to pass 17 important resolutions. Notably, the resolution allocated 158 billion VND from the budget to support tuition exemption and reduction for preschool children and primary school students in public schools.

According to the Resolution on tuition support for educational institutions in the province for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years, the state budget will support 100% of tuition fees for public preschool and general education institutions in Quang Nam province.

Every year, Quang Nam province collects more than 67 billion VND in tuition fees.

For private educational institutions, the state budget will support at the same level as public educational institutions according to Resolution No. 17, issued by the People's Council of Quang Nam province in July 2024. Specifically, Resolution 17/2024 stipulates that preschool students in urban areas pay 105,000 VND/month, and in rural areas 45,000 VND/month, the state will support this amount, the rest will be paid by parents according to the agreement with the private school.

According to calculations by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, the budget to support tuition exemption and reduction for public and private schools in the province in the two school years 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 is more than 158 billion VND.

Current statistics show that the total tuition revenue from 2016 to 2024 is estimated at nearly 540 billion VND, an average of more than 67 billion VND per year. The amount of tuition revenue in Quang Nam province each year accounts for 1.4% to 1.7% of the province's total regular expenditure on education. Tuition revenue is used to pay salaries for preschool, junior high and high school teachers according to Government regulations; the rest is used to supplement expenses for educational activities. Mr. Thai Viet Tuong, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Nam province, said that the policy of exempting tuition fees for students is a humane policy to help parents reduce some of the difficulties and create more motivation for students to study well.

“The regulation on tuition exemption or tuition support aims to share with people in implementing tuition policy, contributing to creating conditions for stable social security and continuing to develop education and training in the province.”
