The Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Tri province said that the total power capacity included in the National Power Development Plan and the adjusted Power Plan VIII of Quang Tri province to 2030 is 14,415MW, and the period 2031 - 2035 is 3,872.8MW.
By the end of July 2025, the total capacity of electricity generated and commercially operated in the province is 1,459.8 MW, including: 21 wind power plant projects with a total capacity of 994.2 MW; 11 hydropower plant projects with a total capacity of 181.5 MW; 4 ground-mounted solar power plant projects with a total capacity of 159.2 MW (199 MWp) and 1,204 rooftop solar power systems with a total capacity of 126.7 MW.
In addition to projects that have come into commercial operation, in Quang Tri there are also projects that have been approved by competent authorities for investment policies and are being implemented by investors with an operating schedule until 2030.
Notable among these is the Quang Trach 1 thermal power plant project invested by EVN, with a capacity of 1,403 MW, providing about 8.5 billion kWh per year; currently under urgent construction, it will be put into trial oil burning on August 19, 2025 and put into commercial operation in May 2026.
Hai Lang 1 LNG Thermal Power Plant (1,500 MW), invested by a joint venture of T&T Group , HEC, KOGAS and KOSPO, is expected to operate in the 2028-2029 period, providing about 9.75 billion kWh/year.
Quang Trach II LNG Thermal Power Plant invested by EVN, with a capacity of 1,500 MW, is completing the feasibility study report procedures and is expected to operate in 2030.
Quang Tri combined cycle gas turbine plant (340 MW), invested by Gazprom EP International (Russian Federation), using natural gas, is expected to operate in 2030.
