Center-back Que Ngoc Hai is among 10 defenders nominated for four positions in the Asian Cup All-Time Dream Team.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on its homepage the vote for the best team in Asian Cup history on July 12. They selected 42 nominees, for each reader to choose their favorite team of 11 people. In the group of 10 defenders nominated to choose four positions, central defender Que Ngoc Hai is the only representative of Vietnam present.

Ngoc Hai participated in the 2019 Asian Cup once, and was an important factor in coach Park Hang-seo's defense. Vietnam conceded seven goals in five matches, and Ngoc Hai scored one goal against Yemen in the group stage. He also scored his first successful penalty kick, when Vietnam eliminated Jordan in the round of 16.

Ngoc Hai will compete with nine of the continent's top defenders, including Yuto Nagatomo and Hong Myung-bo. The 30-year-old center back is one of two Southeast Asian representatives nominated for this dream team, alongside former Malaysian center back Soh Chin Aun.

While the competition ratio for the defenders is the easiest, at 1:2.5, the other positions have more famous players. There are eight goalkeepers nominated for just one position in the goal. The midfield and attack lines each have 12 nominees for three positions, including stars like Park Ji-sung, Son Heung-min, Keisuke Honda, Tim Cahill and Ali Daei.

The AFC will rely on fan votes and the views of a panel of experts to determine the Dream Team. Readers have until July 30 to vote, with the winning team to be announced on August 12 - five months before the start of the 2024 Asian Cup.

The Asian Cup was first held in 1956 in Hong Kong, with South Korea winning the tournament. The tournament has been held 17 times, with Japan being the most successful with four championships in 1992, 2000, 2004 and 2011.

The 2024 Asian Cup will take place in Qatar from January 12 to February 10, with 24 teams divided into six groups. Vietnam is in Group D with Japan, Iraq and Indonesia.
