The National Assembly will elect the President at its October session.

This afternoon (August 26), at a press conference on the results of the 8th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly , Secretary General of the National Assembly Bui Van Cuong said that according to the resolution of the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly will elect the position of President at the October session (8th session of the 15th National Assembly).

According to Mr. Cuong, the position of Minister of Finance will be held concurrently by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc until a new minister is appointed, and the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs will be held concurrently by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son.

Providing more information about personnel restructuring, Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Organization Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai said that according to the Central Committee's plan, from now until the end of 2024, it will focus on restructuring senior leadership positions and Party committees and authorities at all levels.

According to Ms. Hai, this aims to strengthen the Party's leadership role in the tasks of socio- economic development, culture, national defense, security, foreign affairs and prepare for Party congresses at all levels leading up to the 14th National Party Congress.

Earlier, on the same afternoon, the National Assembly elected Mr. Le Minh Tri, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy, as Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court; and elected Mr. Nguyen Huy Tien, Permanent Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy, as Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy for the 2021-2026 term.

At the same time, approved the appointment of Deputy Prime Ministers Nguyen Hoa Binh, Bui Thanh Son, Ho Duc Phoc, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy and Minister of Justice Nguyen Hai Ninh.
