Determined to prevent counterfeit and poor quality goods

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - According to the report of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and poor quality goods is identified as a key, regular task that cannot be relaxed under any circumstances. Especially, in the context of the strong economic recovery after the pandemic, trade and tourism activities are booming, violators tend to take advantage of the bustling market to put counterfeit goods and goods of unknown origin into circulation with increasingly sophisticated tricks.

Accordingly, since the beginning of 2025, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Steering Committee 389 have issued many documents on the fight to prevent and repel smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights. Especially right after the Prime Minister directed the launch of a peak period to prevent and repel smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the member branches of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, Steering Committee 389 at all levels and mobilized functional forces to focus on inspecting violations of counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, counterfeit labels, packaging, and counterfeit trademarks of registered intellectual property rights. In particular, focusing on essential goods serving people's consumption such as functional foods, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, milk, cosmetics, electronic components, etc.

In the first 6 months of 2025, the provincial authorities detected 1,144 violations, of which 194 cases were transferred to criminal prosecution, 950 administrative violations were handled, and nearly 157 billion VND was paid to the state budget. Notably, on April 1, 2025, the economic police force and the provincial police dismantled a very large counterfeit pharmaceutical production and trading ring, initiated a case, and prosecuted 14 defendants.

At the national conference on the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property infringement recently organized by the National Steering Committee 389, Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Do Minh Tuan shared experiences drawn from the uncompromising fight against counterfeit and poor quality goods in the province. At the same time, he pointed out very sophisticated methods and tricks that make it difficult to fight and detect. Accordingly, criminals of trade fraud and counterfeit goods often use tricks such as: choosing products of big brands, registered for protection and favored by consumers to counterfeit. Or not counterfeiting available products but creating their own product names, company names headquartered abroad, and writing fake instructions that cause confusion. Along with that, the subjects regularly update and monitor information of genuine manufacturers to change designs, forms, use codes, and barcodes copied from similar product groups; Taking advantage of legal regulations allowing establishments to self-declare and take responsibility for product quality to produce counterfeit and poor quality goods.

In particular, the subjects also take advantage of e-commerce platforms and social networks to reach consumers because it is easy to post and also easy to remove news articles. Many sites use international domain names and register anonymously, making it difficult to investigate and fight against.

Faced with sophisticated tricks to bypass the authorities, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Do Minh Tuan stated: The fight against counterfeit and smuggled goods is not only assigned to the authorities, but must mobilize the drastic, comprehensive and synchronous participation of the entire political system, from the province to the grassroots. This work needs to be implemented in the direction of "hitting hard, hitting accurately" and strictly handling according to the provisions of the law. At the same time, promote propaganda, training, and raise legal awareness for small traders and enterprises; build a culture of honest business, towards a healthy and transparent market.

In the context of Thanh Hoa province's strong transformation, attracting FDI capital, developing industry, services and rapid urbanization, maintaining a clean, transparent and healthy market is not only a practical requirement but also a manifestation of high political determination. When the government dares to think, dares to do, and acts to the end; when people do not compromise with wrongdoing, then counterfeit and poor quality goods will no longer have a "place to live".
