BioTuring (based in California, USA) has just announced an artificial intelligence (AI) model that can track more details about cancerous tumors.
In a February 4th post on NVIDIA's website, the newly released AI model from BioTuring suggests it could help scientists shed light on how and why certain relationships between cells trigger cancer growth.
BioTuring has unveiled an AI model capable of generating detailed images of cancerous tumors at the cellular level. These images will provide data on cell size and shape, which genes are activated, and, importantly, the relative spatial positions of millions of different cells within a tissue sample.
BioTuring developed an AI model for mapping cancer cells.
Compared to biological computational methods, the new AI model mentioned above has advantages in information processing time, providing detailed, high-resolution, real-time information about the interaction between cancer cells and the immune system.
Son Pham, CEO of BioTuring, said: “There are about 30 trillion cells in the human body, and a large tumor will have several million cells.” “Imagine you are analyzing high-resolution satellite imagery to understand how a city functions; our model, from a biological perspective, will show you clearly each house, what’s inside, who’s talking, and what they’re saying,” Son Pham said, drawing a comparison and explaining that BioTuring’s AI model will help answer some complex challenges in clinical cancer research – by showing the interactions between cells.
BioTuring, a member of NVIDIA's Inception program for startups, has used NVIDIA's equipment and technology to create high-resolution cellular maps. By understanding how cancer cells grow and metastasize in the human body, scientists expect this AI model to improve screening methods for early cancer detection.
Additionally, researchers can use the cellular insights of this model to better understand tumor heterogeneity, meaning that cancerous tumors in the same patient may have cells that differ significantly from one another. The visual detail of the AI model can also aid in the development of cancer treatments.
