Construction begins on the Lai Son 110kV Substation.

On the morning of December 17th, the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Lai Son 110kV Substation in the Kien Hai Special Economic Zone (An Giang province). This project is a celebration of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Leaders from EVNSPC and An Giang Power Company attended the ceremony.

The Lai Son 110kV Substation project has a total investment of VND 101.46 billion, with a capacity of 2x25MVA; the connecting 110kV transmission line has a length of 0.03 km (2 circuits). The project is invested by EVNSPC, and after completion, it will be managed and operated by An Giang Power Company.

Deputy General Director of EVNSPC, Doan Duc Hung, delivered a speech at the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, EVNSPC Deputy General Director Doan Duc Hung said the project will be completed and energized before April 30, 2026, meeting the increasing load demand of the Kien Hai special economic zone and effectively utilizing the 110kV An Bien - Lai Son power line.

The Lai Son 110kV Substation will supply electricity to the former An Son and Nam Du island communes from the national grid through the Nam Du Archipelago Power Supply Project, which is scheduled to commence in 2026. The project will replace diesel power plants, helping to minimize the environmental impacts of electricity generation using diesel sources.

During the period 2026-2030, to meet the development needs of An Giang province as directed by the Prime Minister on double-digit growth, EVNSPC plans to invest 13,000 billion VND in the construction of power projects. This includes many important projects such as the Phu Quoc 220kV Substation (expected to be operational in Q4/2026); commissioning 43 110kV power grid projects with an investment of over 3,200 billion VND; and medium and low voltage power grids and other investments totaling approximately 7,500 billion VND…

Hon Son Island has been connected to the national power grid since 2016 via a 110kV power line, with a total length of 43km (24.5km of which is at sea). Currently, this power line operates at a voltage of 22kV, supplying electricity to more than 2,000 households on the island…
