According to Football Italia , to celebrate Luka Modric's move to AC Milan, Rakitic posted on his personal page, using a song with lyrics supporting the Milan team. However, it is worth noting that this song also contains an offensive message about Juventus, AC Milan's rival.
The incident later caused a huge controversy, when Juventus fans flooded the former Croatia international's personal page to attack him. When many fans reacted, Rakitic deleted the controversial post and apologized on his personal page.
“I would like to sincerely apologise to Juventus fans. My intention was to use an AC Milan song to congratulate my friend Luka Modric, without being aware of the historical context or the lyrics involved,” the former Barca star stressed.
He further explained: "I had absolutely no intention of offending anyone, especially Juventus, a club that I have always respected."
In May, Rakitic officially announced his retirement at the age of 37, ending a glorious journey of more than 15 years on the pitch. After retiring, Rakitic moved into a management role, taking on the position of assistant sports director at his hometown club Hajduk Split.
