Joining in the nationwide opening day atmosphere, from early morning, students at ethnic boarding schools and schools in ethnic minority and border regions donned their most beautiful and vibrant traditional costumes to go to school.

At the Viet Bac Highland High School ( Thai Nguyen ), Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religion Dao Ngoc Dung attended the opening ceremony and encouraged and supported the teachers and students. Also present were Mr. Pham Hoang Son, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province; leaders of several departments and units under the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religion; and representatives of departments and agencies of Thai Nguyen province. Every year, over 95% of Viet Bac Highland High School students pass the university entrance exams in the first round. In the 2023-2024 academic year, the school won 2 gold medals and 1 special prize at the International Science and Engineering Olympiad in South Korea; 19 students won national awards for academic excellence, including 2 first prizes; and 291 students won provincial awards for academic excellence. The school admits 10th-grade students from ethnic minority groups in the northern mountainous provinces (from Quang Binh northward), with an enrollment capacity of approximately 650–800 10th-grade students each year. The vibrant cultural performances on the school stage on the morning of September 5th were staged and performed by the students themselves. Meanwhile, at the Lao Cai Ethnic Boarding High School, the 2025-2026 school year will have 525 students from 16 ethnic groups studying there, including, for the first time, Khmer ethnic students admitted to grade 10. Before the ceremony, the children were happy to see each other again after the summer break, and to be with their families. In the 2025-2026 academic year, Kon Tum Ethnic Boarding High School in Quang Ngai province will have 512 students from 13 ethnic groups. Established in 1998, the school is a provincial-level ethnic boarding school, providing general education, focusing on ethnic minority students. The school achieved national standards in 2010. The objective of Kon Tum Ethnic Boarding High School is to train cadres for ethnic minorities, meeting the requirements of economic development and social progress in remote and disadvantaged districts and communes. The school prioritizes admitting students from ethnic minority groups living in mountainous and remote areas. However, according to the latest regulations, students who are not from ethnic minority groups may also be considered for admission if they and their families have been living stably (for at least 36 months) in particularly disadvantaged areas. Ms. Dang Thu Phuong, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Binh Lieu commune (Quang Ninh province), presented gifts to disadvantaged students of Binh Lieu Ethnic Boarding School on the occasion of the opening of the new school year. Starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, the school will be rebuilt into a high-quality school with a total investment of approximately 95 billion VND. The school will be built on an area of over 1.54 hectares, including facilities such as: a theoretical classroom building, library, administrative building, subject classrooms, dormitory, canteen, multi-purpose hall, sports field, and electrical system. Students in Muong Long commune (Nghe An province), where 100% of the population are Mong ethnic people, wore traditional costumes to attend the opening ceremony of the new school year.
