My Dinh Stadium peels off old grass and plants new grass like Man United's stadium

My Dinh National Sports Complex is renovating the grass surface of My Dinh National Stadium from September 6.

According to Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of September 11, after 5 days of renovation, the old grass field of My Dinh National Stadium is about to be half removed. This activity is part of the plan to renovate the field of My Dinh National Sports Complex.

Mechanical vehicles are transporting the excavated soil and rock from the old foundation. It will take nearly another week for the entire old surface to be dug up.

Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tran Van Duong - technical officer in charge of the construction unit/Anh Duong Sports Trade Construction Company Limited - said that in the next few months, My Dinh Stadium will have its entire sand surface replaced, the drainage system reinforced, and the irrigation system rebuilt, all 100% new with materials imported from the US.

It is expected that My Dinh Stadium will be able to start planting grass by February 2026. The new grass for the stadium is called Zeon Zoysia, the same type of grass that is grown at famous stadiums such as Old Trafford or Anfield in the Premier League.

Recently, My Dinh Stadium has organized a number of cultural, artistic and sports activities to serve the country's important commemorative events. After the events, the My Dinh National Sports Complex has just renovated the grass field.

The deterioration of My Dinh Stadium's surface has existed for many years, making it impossible for the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to organize Vietnam's home matches at My Dinh Stadium since the ASEAN Cup 2024.

The most recent renovation of My Dinh Stadium was in 2021 to prepare for the 31st SEA Games taking place in Vietnam in May 2022.

At this time, the My Dinh National Sports Complex received a total budget of more than 400 billion VND to repair My Dinh Stadium, purchase equipment for athletics and water sports.

However, at this stage, My Dinh Stadium's surface was not repaired because it was not on schedule to host the 31st SEA Games. The bad surface of My Dinh Stadium was the reason why the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) had to choose Viet Tri Stadium as the home field of the Vietnam team at the ASEAN Cup 2024 which took place at the end of last year.
