80th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Ministry of National Education and Special Opening Ceremony

(DN)- On the morning of September 5, at the My Dinh National Convention Center, Hanoi, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) solemnly held the 80th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Ministry of National Education, now the Ministry of Education and Training, combined with the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien; comrades who are members of the Politburo , Secretary of the Party Central Committee, members of the Party Central Committee, representatives of central and local departments, ministries, branches; representatives of international organizations in Vietnam and outstanding teachers, students, trainees and students across the country.

A special opening ceremony in the history of education

The ceremony was broadcast live on Vietnam Television and connected to more than 52,000 educational institutions nationwide, including more than 1,300 educational institutions from kindergarten to university in Dong Nai.

Immediately after the opening ceremony ended, educational institutions in Dong Nai organized for teachers, students, and parents to go into classrooms and auditoriums to watch the ceremony live on television.

In his speech at the ceremony, Party Central Committee member and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son reviewed the history of the establishment of the Ministry of National Education, now the Ministry of Education and Training. The establishment of the Ministry of National Education on August 28, 1945, just a few days after the success of the August Revolution, demonstrated President Ho Chi Minh's vision of the role of education in the development of the country.

Talking about the development of the education and training sector nationwide after 80 years of formation and development, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized: “Over the past 80 years, like a miracle, from the context of a country with 95% of the population being illiterate, the intellectual class as sparse as autumn leaves, the number of higher education schools counted on the fingers, and going through decades of war, with many hardships and difficulties... today, the whole country has completed universal education from kindergarten to the end of junior high school”.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son also reviewed many of the country's outstanding achievements in education development, that is, the quality of general education has been gradually improved, Vietnam is internationally recognized as a group of countries with good general education in the world. For many years, Vietnam has been in the group of 10 countries with the best results in Olympic competitions around the world. Currently, the country has over 52,000 educational institutions, of which 65% of general schools meet standards, many schools are spacious and modern.

Continuing the achievements of the country's education sector after 80 years of establishment and development, on the first official day of the new school year 2025-2026, Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that the country is facing a historic opportunity for breakthrough development, successfully realizing the aspirations of the two 100-year goals, the requirements of building people, developing high-quality human resources are very urgent, requiring strong development of education and training. The Minister hopes that all teachers and students will continue to make efforts, be creative, act quickly and strongly to overcome their own limits, take advantage of all opportunities and conditions, and fulfill the country's new glorious mission.

Education is the future of the nation

In this special ceremony, General Secretary To Lam delivered a particularly meaningful speech, not only for the Ministry of Education and Training in its new journey, but also for the education sector of the whole country, especially for more than 1,700 teachers and millions of students across the country who watched General Secretary To Lam's speech on national television.

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of National Education is an opportunity to review the glorious tradition, pay tribute to the contributions of generations of teachers and education managers, and affirm the determination to strongly innovate education, so that education is truly the top national policy, the key driving force for national development, and the future of the nation.

General Secretary To Lam assessed that over the past 80 years, Vietnam's revolutionary education has always been at the forefront of creating human resources and nurturing talents, making a decisive contribution to the victory of the revolutionary cause of national liberation, national unification and development. Faced with the country's new goals and opportunities, especially the goal of Vietnam becoming a modern industrialized country by 2030 and a developed, high-income country by 2045, the Politburo recently issued Resolution No. 71 on breakthroughs in education and training development, continuing to consider education as a top national policy.

To quickly put Resolution 71 into practice, General Secretary To Lam suggested: The entire Party must strongly innovate its leadership thinking on education, not imposing old standards for a modern education, but need to closely and substantially direct, organize implementation resolutely, effectively, consistently, considering education as the top national policy. The National Assembly needs to continue to perfect the legal system, create a smooth, stable and advanced legal corridor for the cause of education and training innovation. The Government increases investment, ensures financial resources, facilities, and staff; at the same time, resolutely removes bottlenecks in mechanisms and policies to unblock and mobilize all social resources for education. The Vietnam Fatherland Front and social organizations need to promote the strength of great solidarity, encourage and spread the movement of the entire people to care for the cause of cultivating people.

Regarding the education sector, General Secretary To Lam requested: It is necessary to be a pioneer in innovation of thinking, methods, and management; to build a team of teachers with knowledge, ethics, and aspiration to contribute. Teachers must be shining examples and sources of inspiration for students. Students must nurture great ambitions and aspirations, study and practice to become global citizens, gradually integrating into international standards but always maintaining Vietnamese identity and soul.

Presenting some major orientations and educational development in the new period, the General Secretary requested that there should be a strong innovation in thinking and action, shifting from "corrective" reform to creative thinking - leading national development through education. Taking quality - equity - integration - efficiency as the measure; tightening enforcement discipline.

Ensure equal access to education, improve the intellectual level of the people. Do not leave any child behind, prioritize remote, border, island and disadvantaged areas. Increase investment in schools, school nutrition, teachers and digital infrastructure. Innovate general education in a comprehensive direction, education not only imparts knowledge, but also nurtures personality - trains the body - cultivates the soul, arouses the spirit of citizenship, sense of discipline and social responsibility, forming a generation of people who are "both talented, kind and resilient".

General Secretary To Lam emphasized: It is necessary to create breakthroughs in higher education and vocational education. Universities must become centers for knowledge and technology production, the core of innovation - startups, closely linking training - research - transfer with the country's development needs. It is necessary to form large universities of regional and international stature, modern vocational training facilities, to train high-quality human resources, contributing to the country's breakthrough in science - technology, industrialization and digital transformation.

The General Secretary also mentioned the task of promoting international integration in education, taking care of building a team of teachers and educational managers, promoting digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) in education, prioritizing investment in education, promoting the building of a learning society and lifelong learning.

On the first day of the 2025-2026 school year, General Secretary To Lam also advised 26 million students across the country with profound words: "The previous generation created victory with blood and bones. Today, in peace, integration and aspirations to rise up, the responsibility of your generation is to create new victories with knowledge - courage - creativity".

As for the teaching staff across the country, General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated their enormous sacrifices and contributions to the cause of "cultivating people", and expressed his deep gratitude and sincere thanks to generations of teachers. He hoped that teachers would continue to set an example, innovate methods, and lead students on the path of knowledge and personality. Teachers would pioneer digital transformation, guiding students to use technology, especially artificial intelligence, in a creative, effective, safe, and humane way.
