From mid-October until now, the Student Union of the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology has advised and organized student sports events to celebrate Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20) and Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20), attracting more than 750 students to participate in football, table tennis, badminton, tug-of-war, chess, etc. After work, Ms. Hai Nghi participates in managing the sports activities; encouraging students to compete, creating a competitive atmosphere, and promoting physical fitness.
Ms. Pham Thi Hai Nghi has been working at the school since 2022. In July 2024, she was elected to the position of Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology. Ms. Hai Nghi and the Executive Committee of the Youth Union organized many volunteer activities for the community, such as: visiting and giving gifts to families of policy beneficiaries; awarding scholarships and learning materials to help students overcome difficulties and study well; implementing the project "For a beautiful school for children"; mobilizing students to contribute to support people affected by natural disasters… Specifically, in early June 2025, the Youth Union, in coordination with the Steering Committee of the Can Tho City Street Children's Club, launched the "Compassionate Tutoring Class" program for children in the club. The class is held three times a week, attracting more than 130 Youth Union members and young people to participate. In August 2025, the Youth Union branch mobilized benefactors to donate 1,000 notebooks and school supplies to 100 disadvantaged students at Hoa Tan 2 Primary School, Hoa Tan commune, Dong Thap province... Ha Hoang Gia Quan, a student in the Biotechnology major, class 48, said: “The activities organized by the Youth Union branch help me both improve my health and enhance my sense of responsibility towards my family and society. During these activities, Ms. Nghi always encourages me and other students to participate in Youth Union activities and study well.”
In addition, Ms. Hai Nghi and the Executive Committee of the Youth Union regularly innovate and improve the effectiveness of Youth Union work and student movements through organizing volunteer programs related to their majors; helping students train according to the criteria of "5 Good Students"; effectively implementing traditional and legal education for Youth Union members in the online space... At the same time, they coordinate with other units to organize cultural and artistic exchange activities and traditional education for students; and carry out the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign inside and outside the school...
Over the past nearly four years, Ms. Pham Thi Hai Nghi has conducted four scientific research projects, including: “The influence of endosymbiotic mycorrhizal fungi on the growth of potted rice plants under unfavorable pH and irrigation conditions”, “The influence of beneficial microorganisms and growth regulators on the growth, yield, and quality of asparagus (Asparagus oficinalis L.) under greenhouse conditions”, “Isolation and selection of phosphorus-dissolving and nitrogen-fixing microorganisms from organic raw materials for the formulation of microbial organic fertilizers”, and “Building a model for high-tech organic vegetable production at the Hau Giang High-Tech Agricultural Zone”. In addition, Ms. Hai Nghi has contributed to 10 articles published in domestic and international journals. Ms. Hai Nghi shared: “In the coming time, I will continue to participate in researching high-tech vegetable production models; and coordinate with faculty and university student unions to carry out organic fertilizer composting projects to fertilize the trees on campus. Simultaneously, I and the Executive Committee of the Youth Union will continue to organize Youth Union activities suitable to students' majors and study schedules to help them develop their skills.”
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Pha, Secretary of the Youth Union of Can Tho University, Ms. Pham Thi Hai Nghi is a dynamic Youth Union official who always demonstrates a pioneering spirit in Youth Union work and youth movements; she has many outstanding achievements in scientific research and technology transfer; and she actively organizes and participates in volunteer programs inside and outside the university, serving as a shining example for Youth Union officials and students to emulate.
