At noon on November 3 (local time), while 11 workers were carrying out a restoration project, part of the ancient Torre dei Conti tower in the Italian capital of Rome suddenly collapsed. The incident caused bricks and stones to fall onto the street and a thick cloud of white dust rose into the sky.
Rescuers were immediately on the scene to rescue four workers buried under the rubble. Three were fortunately brought out safely, one of whom was seriously injured.
However, while trying to rescue the last victim - Mr. Octay Stroici, 66 years old, Romanian nationality, the tower suddenly collapsed once again, taking with it billowing columns of dust.
Sono drammatiche le immagini che raccontano quello che sta accadendo a Largo Corrado Ricci.

Part of the Torre dei Conti tower collapsed, sending smoke and dust into the air.
According to Rome Mayor Lamberto Giannini, immediately after the first collapse, firefighters "set up some protective measures" around Mr Stroici, which gave him some cover when the second collapse occurred.
During the 11-hour rescue operation, the victim remained conscious. However, when he was taken to the hospital, he was in critical condition and passed away at 00:20 on November 4.
The Torre dei Conti is located in a busy area, close to the Imperial Forum and the Colosseum - one of Italy's top tourist destinations. It was built in the early 13th century and is being restored with funds from the European Union.
The incident damaged a pillar, the base of the tower, a section of the staircase and the roof of the structure, according to Rome's Cultural Heritage Department. The construction phase, which began in June and included asbestos removal, is nearly complete. Analysis carried out at the start of the project found the structure "fully qualified for the necessary safety" to proceed.
