Today (November 21), Vietnam-Germany University held the opening ceremony for the 2023-2024 school year and celebrated its 15th anniversary. In the new school year, the school welcomed nearly 600 new students, bringing the total number of university training students to 2,700. Compared to 36 students in the first school year, the school's student population has now increased 75 times.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc highly praised the achievements of the Vietnamese-German University. Starting in 2008 with only 36 initial students in the undergraduate electrical engineering program, the university now has 2,700 students enrolled in 7 undergraduate and 10 master's programs, focusing on various fields of high-tech engineering and economics . The university boasts a high employment rate for graduates and significant achievements in research conducted by its faculty.
According to Deputy Minister Phuc, the establishment of the Vietnam-Germany University is the result of the long-standing historical relationship between Vietnam and Germany. With the support of an association of nearly 40 German universities, following the German university education model, the university's internationalization opportunities will be significantly expanded.
"It's not just about international student and faculty exchanges, cross-border cooperation in research and the application of research to solve global problems, but also about worldwide competition to get the best people, the best research, and the best reputation," Deputy Minister Phuc emphasized.
Calling this a reform project of Vietnam, a new model university, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc believes that the sustainable development of the school is not only an investment for the future of Vietnam but also an investment in the relationship between Germany and Vietnam.
Speaking to the new students, Dr. Ha Thuc Vien, Vice Principal in charge of Vietnam-Germany University, said: "The responsibility of students now is to study hard."
Mr. Vien further suggested: "You must make the most of every opportunity and proactively ask professors anything you don't understand. Ask as many questions as possible. Only then will you accurately grasp the knowledge you need. Because the professors come to Vietnam with the sole purpose of guiding you to become leading experts, scholars, and researchers in the future."
Vietnam-Germany University was established in 2008 with the orientation of becoming a leading research university in Vietnam and in the region. This is also the first university established within the framework of the Project to build a number of excellent universities of the Vietnamese Government.
