At Royal Portrush, it could be said that the 2025 Open Championship is divided into two versions.

One version features Scottie Scheffler playing alone, seemingly unopposed, as if he were strolling leisurely along the fairways and greens of the Northern Ireland coast, with the ruins of Dunluce Castle visible in the vibrant orange sunset and the wonder of the Giant's Causeway rising from the rocky shore.

The other version is a tournament for the rest of the best golfers on the planet.

They jostled for position, but they all understood: their goal was simply to finish as runner-up. Scheffler always held the top spot, completing all 18 holes as if counting down to glory.

Scheffler's victory at The Open was predictable, given his absolute dominance both technically and mentally. The American golfer triumphed with a score of 17 under par, four strokes ahead of second-place Harris English (-13) and five strokes ahead of Chris Gotterup (-12), creating an all-American podium.

Behind them are Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick and Li Haotong Li all tied at -11. Robert MacIntyre, Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy are tied at -10.

The Claret Jug is now in the hands of the world's greatest golfer. At the age of 29, Scheffler won the most prestigious title in golf history, a title that created a legend.

This is his fourth major title, following two Masters victories (2022, 2024) and this year's PGA Championship win.

Now, all that's left is the US Open to complete his Grand Slam collection – something Rory McIlroy just accomplished this season.

At that peak, names like Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods are waiting.

Scheffler's dominance is reminiscent of the golden age of Tiger Woods.

Scheffler started with a birdie on hole 1. He showed his emotion by clenching his fists as he saved par on holes 6 and 7 with two long putts, although he also suffered a double bogey on hole 8 when he got stuck in a sand trap.

Could a winning machine also be human? But this was just a minor lapse – he quickly regained his composure, steadily progressing toward victory and making his way onto the green of the 18th hole to the cheers of the Royal Portrush crowd.

After the final putt, he let his emotions flow: he hugged his wife Meredith tightly and lifted his young son Bennett into his arms.

Scheffler added The Open title to his winning streak this year, which includes the Byron Nelson, Memorial, and PGA Championship, after a rather rocky start to the season where he had to take a few weeks off after cutting his hand while... making his own Christmas dinner.

His record in the majors this season is truly impressive: 4th place at The Masters, PGA Championship title, 7th place at the US Open, and now victory at The Open.

This is one of the best streaks in history. The golfer from Texas enters his 150th week at world number 1 – behind only Tiger Woods (683 weeks) and Greg Norman (331) in the historical rankings.

Last year, Scheffler won eight championships, including an Olympic gold medal in Paris, achieving the lowest average score in PGA Tour history (68.01 strokes per round).

His record-breaking achievements are piling up, but he remains humble . “I just try to compete and win,” Scheffler shared; “but that doesn’t change who I am when I go home.”

“If I dared show off the trophy, my wife would probably slap me. Winning a golf tournament doesn’t make me a different person.” But clearly, he is a different person. Unique.
