At Royal Portrush, it could be said that The Open Championship 2025 is divided into two versions.
One version features Scottie Scheffler playing alone, seemingly unopposed, as he strolls leisurely through the fairways and greens of Northern Ireland's coast, with the ruins of Dunluce Castle cast in an orange sunset and the wonder of the Giant's Causeway rising from the rocks.
The other version is a tournament for the rest of the best golfers on the planet.
They jostled for position, but everyone knew: their goal was only second place. In first place was always Scheffler, who went through 18 holes as if counting down to glory.

Scheffler's victory at The Open was a foregone conclusion, given his absolute dominance both professionally and mentally. The American golfer won the title with a score of 17 under par, 4 strokes ahead of second-place Harris English (-13), and 5 strokes ahead of Chris Gotterup (-12), creating an all-American podium.
Behind them were Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick and Li Haotong Li all at -11. Robert MacIntyre, Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy were at -10.
The Claret Jug is now in the hands of the world's best golfer. At 29, Scheffler won the most prestigious title in golf history, the title that created legends.
This is the 4th major of his career, after wearing the green jacket The Masters twice (2022, 2024) and winning the PGA Championship this year.
Now, all he needs is the US Open to complete the Grand Slam – something Rory McIlroy just completed this season.

At that pinnacle, names like Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods await.
Scheffler's dominance is reminiscent of Tiger Woods' heyday.
Scheffler started with a birdie on hole 1. He showed his emotions by clenching his fist as he saved par on holes 6 and 7 with two long putts, although he also made a double bogey on hole 8 when he got stuck in a sand trap.
Is the winning machine human too? But it was just a small mistake – he quickly regained his form, gradually approaching victory and entering the green of the 18th hole to the cheers of the Royal Portrush crowd.
After the final putt, he let his emotions spill out: hugging his wife Meredith tightly, and lifting his young son Bennett into his arms.
Scheffler added The Open title to his winning streak this year, which included the Byron Nelson, Memorial and PGA Championship, after a rocky start to the season that saw him miss several weeks after cutting his hand while... making Christmas dinner.

His performance in majors this season has been absolutely stunning: 4th place at The Masters, PGA Championship, 7th place at the US Open and now The Open victory.
It’s one of the best streaks in history. The Texan is entering his 150th week as world No. 1 – behind only Tiger Woods (683 weeks) and Greg Norman (331) in the all-time rankings.
Last year, Scheffler won eight championships, including the Olympic gold medal in Paris, achieving the lowest average strokes in PGA Tour history (68.01 strokes/round).
The records pile up, but he remains humble . “I just try to compete and win,” Scheffler says; “but that doesn’t change who I am when I come home.”
“If I dare to show off my trophy, my wife will probably slap me. Winning a golf tournament doesn't make me a different person.” But clearly, he is a different person. Unique.
