On the decisive day at Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon Course, the 32-year-old Austrian golfer shot 68 strokes (-2), achieving a total score of -16 after 72 holes to win the championship.

This is Straka's second win of the 2025 season (after The American Express in January) and he joins a rare group of golfers who have won more than one title on the PGA Tour this year, along with Rory McIlroy (three wins).

“The biggest key was my move to work with coach John Tillery,” Straka said. “We focused on improving my irons and that made a difference.”

Notably, Straka played this week without his regular caddie, Duane Bock, who has been out with a back injury since early May. His close friend Drew Mathers was unexpectedly given the task and performed flawlessly. Bock hugged Straka on the 18th green after the win.

From outside the world's top 200 at the end of 2021, Straka will enter the OWGR top 10 for the first time, with his fourth career PGA Tour title.

Dramatic finale down to the last hole

Sepp Straka and Shane Lowry both had -14 strokes after 54 holes. The balance between the two golfers was maintained until the end of hole 5 of the final round, in which Lowry scored 2 birdies (holes 1 and 5), while Straka scored an eagle after a very good putt on hole 5.

Straka took a two-stroke lead over Lowry after back-to-back birdies at holes 8 and 9. Despite consecutive bogeys at holes 10 and 11, Straka did not give up. He held his ground and capitalized on Lowry's mistakes in the final holes to win.

Lowry failed to save par at 16, missed a 22-foot birdie putt that could have tied the score at 17, then made bogey at 18 after three-putting. Lowry closed the final round with an even-par score, accepting a second-place position with a total score of -14.

Lowry has yet to win another PGA Tour title, after winning The Open 2019.

Straka and Lowry were teammates at the 2023 Ryder Cup, where Straka made his debut and helped Europe win. Coach Tillery said the intense pressure of the Ryder Cup has helped his player gain confidence. “He can be nervous, but he’s never scared,” said Coach Tillery. “Straka knows how to stay calm in the midst of chaos.”

Justin Thomas - RBC Heritage champion - also impressed when he approached the leading group and almost tied at hole 15. Finishing T2 with Lowry (-14), Thomas considered this an ideal warm-up step before the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow - where he won in 2017.

Patrick Cantlay, Jacob Bridgeman and Tommy Fleetwood finished in T4th place with a total score of -12. Rory McIlroy, the golfer who won this tournament four times, had a final round of 68 (-2) and finished in 7th place with a total score of -10.
